I've been trying to use Toast Titanium 10 and get the same error each and every time I attempt to burn a disc. I've tried 5 brands of discs and the problem it the same. I'm burning with Disk Utility just fine, every time. I uninstalled Toast 10 (and trashed all prefs) and reinstalled Toast 9 and get the same error and no burn. I applied all updates to Toast 9 and tried again. Now I'm getting a Kernel Panic on each and every burn. I've been a loyal Roxio customer for many years, what's going on Roxio? mad.gif

What settings are you using in Toast? At what point does the error occur? The error message you're reporting sometimes comes up when burning to certain brands of dual-layer DVDs. Is that true in your case?
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

I'm using the setting by default and I have tried 5 different brands of discs and the same error occur every time with all of them. The same error occurs every time I attempt to burn a simple file to a CD-R or anything else to  DVD-R (of --ANY-- brand). The error occurs when I click on "Record".

Okay, it's not related to the media. There are many default settings in Toast. Are you in the Data, Audio, Video or Copy window? Each window has a variety of settings on the left for format.

My guess is you are in the Data window and trying to burn some files to disc using one of the available formats. You also are attempting to burn to an internal drive. Can you be more descriptive so I don't have to do so much guessing?

Which version of OS X are you using?

Hi DigitalSylvie -

More questions:

  • Is this drive that originally came with your Mac?
  • Is your burner external or internal? How is it conected? (I know Disk Utility can burn, but it's a precautionary question)
  • Can iTunes burn a disc?
  • Is your burner recognized in Toast? What name is Toast giving the recorder and is it the same name as Disk Utility recognizes?

I, and I'm guessing tsantee, haven't seen this error yet, but if we can resolve it, I'd love to turn it into a Knowledgebase article.

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Jon,
Thanks for your post.  This is the drive that came with my Mac. It's an internal burner.  Yes, iTunes can burn disks just fine. And the last question is yes as well, it's the same name that Toast is giving the recorder as Disk Utility recognizes and the same name as found in the System Profiler which is MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-868.
I hope you can shed some light into this matter as I've been desperately trying to get files burned for my customer for over 2 weeks now.
Thanks again!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm using Mac OS 10.5.6 (all up to date).
Thanks again!

I'm trying my best to describe my problem...  I haven't changed any setting in Toast so I guess I'm using the default settings. Yes, I'm trying to burn a simple file using the internal drive that came with my brand new MacBook Pro Unibody. I'm using Mac OS 10.5.6 (fully updated).  I've attempted over 15 times to burn, I trashed Toast .plist and launched Toast 10 again, drag my file in the Data window and get a Kernal panic, each and every time I hit the "Record" button. If there is anything I'm missing in describing my problem, please let me know and I'll do my best to describe what is happening. I'm not very technical but I have been using a Mac for 19 years and have been using toast since version 5 without any problems...  I lost as to what the issue is as I can burn with no problem using iTune burn or a Burn Folder. My internal drive as specified in the System Profiler is MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-868.  This is the same drive Toast is recognizing.  I'm lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My understanding is the unibody MacBook and MacBook Pro use a different bus for the optical drive. There were problems reported with Toast 9 and 8 users when the unibody Macs came out and Roxio issued updates to Toast 8 and 9. Toast 10 – as far as I know – didn't have the problem. There also now is a Toast 10.0.1 update.

Because I don't have a unibody Mac I can't troubleshoot this. It's really a matter for Roxio technical support. Sorry I can't be of help.

Thank you you your reply Digital Guru. Unfortunately, I'm using Toast 10.0.1 (updated yesterday hoping it would solve my problem) but the problem persist, no change at all with the update. There seems to be no help available anywhere.

I seem to have the exact problem on my 2  G4 computers laptop as well as desktop with 3 different optical drives using Toast 10 and OSX 10.5.8
Any kind of media, CD-R, DVD-R or DVD-RW, all this burn fine with the System Disk Utility.
The problem seems related to the G4 processors.
No problem with my iMac with the Intel processor using same Toast version and same Mac OSX version.
I definitely need help too ! dry.gif
