I currently use Version 7.0. I use a Pioneer DVD drive that is not listed in the Roxio DVD Compatability List but which works very well. I want to upgrade to a faster burner. Has anyone had any experience with the AOpen 1616L burner. It is cheap, has gotten great reviews and is faster than the Pioneer I currently use. It is not listed in the Compatabiliy either. I am leaning to purchasing the unit even if it has not been tested by Roxio. I suspect we users do most of the testing anyway. Thanks in advance.

I use a Pioneer DVD drive

I would stick with a Retail version of Pioneer, BenQ, or Nec. New egg.com $40 to $50. I have four 16x burners but burn DVD's at 8 and 12x most often!

The DVD Compatability List isn't necessary for version 7.

Newer burners will be recognized by the software because they changed the burning engine in the software.

By newer burner, I mean anything manufactured after the software came out a few years ago.

Basically, Roxio eliminated the need for engine updates for the software to recognize a DVD burner.

So you should be fine with that burner, although I don't know anything about the reliability of that manufacturer.  I have a cheap burner that works at least as well as the name brand one I have.

I have a Pioneer DVD burner.  It is rock solid.  I'm sure you'll find people for and against just about any manufacturing firm.  I also have a LiteOn reader.  Again, problem free.
I had an AOpen burner.  I had an LG burner.  Both failed.  They worked fine at first and then burn times and spinup times just got longer and longer and I ditched them before they failed completely.  If someone deals with these companies and has no problems...that's great and I wish them the best.  I'd never touch them.

In addition to the burners that cdanteek recommends, I would look at Plextor, too.  My next burner is going to be the BenQ DW 1655.

Plextor

Bruce, I own Plextor myself, but since BenQ has made the 740, 755, and 760 for Plextor. I have alimented the middle man, don't know which company's firmware will be better though. Nothing lasts for ever! Plex Premium IMO best Audio CD Burner Made.

Thanks to all who replied. I would much rather take the word of experience than advertizing. I wound up ordering the NEC 3550A drive.
