Won't Burn Dual-layer Dvds

Hello again !!
Thanks for the help i've received recently !!
...But another more worrying problem has been discovered...
I cannot get MYDVD to burn a dual-layer DVD disc
Following advice from Jim and others i am beginning to get to grips with this software - using colour panels and overlaying video etc.
So i have used Videowave and imported an AVI which i overlayed onto a black colour panel and exported it as a MPEG (DVD) file.
I then imported the file into MYDVD and created simple chapter menu but MYDVD will not burn it and it stops the process a short time after.
I have tried various brands at different burn speeds inc. 4x
I have had success burning single-layer discs prior to this i must add
It seems Roxio has serious issues with its DVD burning application as i have not had any problems when using Nero 7 OEM and even the dreaded Nero 9 and my DVD player is a new Sony and can any audio/video/picture files in any format on any disc type (expect Quicktime)
Can anyone help me before i put this software in the bin - it's annoying as Creator 2009's best feature is its video editing capabilities - it's a shame you can't actually burn a DVD with it
Thanks in advance

Cdanteek i will try your method and post back (i need to read up on the procedure first)
Redwagon i've checked the setting you mentioned and it is ok !
I've noticed that on single-layer DVD's i still get popping audio but i have been advised to to into DXDIAG so i will also give this a try
DVD dual-layer brand is Memorex (i also use others with no problems so i don't see why Creator has issues with brands)
Regarding MYDVD it should really be capable of burning a DVD after importing a saved file created in Videowave in MPEG format ........... shouldn't it ?
Thanks again i will now go and attempt to burn a disc
Nevy P
p.s Roxio Creator 2009 is currently on sale here in the UK at half price..............i'm beginning to see why now......

I burnt 2 (same movie clip) DVD's with Copy and Convert the first was an image file - it worked
Second a folder (for some reason the menus didn't appear on the finished disc ! only the 'main' movie) - it worked
However i discovered something interesting with the folder DVD - It contained NO audio gliches !!!
When using MYDVD and ISO (Copy and Convert) that contained simple chapter menus the audio stuttered and popped a bit during playback - Maybe someone should alert Roxio about this fact it could be worth looking into as the folder burnt using Copy and Convert was fine with good audio
(Don't know why the menus were missing though !)
My next step is to do a full length movie burning a lowest speed (2x or less) in MYDVD
and then export ISO or folders and use Copy and Convert
Will report back with results - but it may take some time
Can you let me know about the menu issue in folders with C &C - I found 2 folders 1 with video files and 1 called Roxioplasma but only the video folder would load
Hear from you soon

Tried to burn dual-layer from image in Copy and Convert
Movie had no menus etc - It failed to burn after a short time
Tried to burn dual-layer with MYDVD
Same movie - no menus - it failed to burn after a longer time
I can appreciate what you are saying about good quality media etc but i've never had any problems before with ANY burning application
Both Nero and Roxio have gone one step too far with their software and it just creates more problems for the end-user with bugs and gliches which the manufacturers cannot fix
This is supposed to be software for the general public running average p.c's and it should work without having to resort to tweeks and work arounds in order to get results - if any
My p.c has a 3.4 Ghz Dual Core Processor and 4 GB of RAM and the software is still painfully slow - people with lower spec p.c's have NO chance
Roxio clearly have problems with the DVD burning applications with this software i.e they don't work properly which is a shame as it has the potential to be a really great product - but it isn't
After having this software for a week i think it's about time to remove it and go back to the an old version of Nero or Roxio - which work even if they don't have nowhere near the features of the latest versions
It'll take more than a 'Service Pack' for Roxio to sort this one out
Thanks for all your help

I have done all of the things you are trying to do without problems and (if you look at my specs) I am one of the "people with lower spec p.c's", so your conclusions are wrong.
Its not Roxio that has problems with different DVD makes but the burners. Most burners specify which "makes" the prefer. Memorex is a bottom level DVD.
What is the make/model of your DVD burner?

It's a Samsung SH-203D Dual-Layer
I wasn't being rude when i said 'lower spec p.c's' ! But the software is slow
But i have never encountered any problems burning any make or type of disc until Creator2009
This can only mean Roxio has 'compatability' issues not my burner
Cdanteek told me to try a work around - exporting from MYDVD a image to burn in Copy and Convert which also didn't work
MYDVD has a DVD burning function which should work - so there should be no need to do a work around to try to burn a disc
I've got problems with the audio on s-layer dvd's and d-layer won't burn at all
Every other cd/dvd/burning software that i have ever used on this p.c worked perfectly fine
It's definately Roxio that is incompatable

Have the drivers for the ATI Radeon 1300X Pro 256mb been updated, I have that same Video Card in a Intel P4 PC, XP SP2, running C2009.
I looked through the thread are we running XP? If so download this for installation at a later time, DirectX File Name: directx_nov2008_redist.exe Language: English Download Size: 86.2 MB To save the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
To update the ATI, download the newer correct drivers/control panel/software. Disconnect from the internet, shut down antivirus and firewall software, uninstall from add remove, control panel, ATI drivers and software. Reboot the PC cancel the found new hardware wizard, disconnect from the internet, shut down antivirus and firewall software, then click on your new ATI driver download and install the drivers reboot the PC.
Directions from MS make a restore point before the update.
Your DirectX update reboot the pc, disconnect from the internet, shut down antivirus and firewall software. Click on the downloaded Nov 2008 update and update your DirectX.
Do one make sure it updates fine then reboot again and do the other.
Samsung Firmware, unless it's in a Dell/HP made PC, and they say there isn't a firmware update?
I see SB01 here....http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/Firmware/FWDownload/FWDownload.asp?SearchWord=&SearchMode=&product_code=SDR&language_code=&PageNumber=2

Your right there was a later Samsung driver - SB01 which i installed earler today
I e-mailed Roxio - They told me to install latest PX software, latest burner driver and in Creator Home Page set burn speed to lowest setting
I did all this and still it fails to burn dual-layer
MYDVD - failed to start burn process
Copy & Convert (image) - failed - unspecified error
There is a newer ATI driver/CC download which i haven't installed yet and i doubt it will do anything
My p.c specs are :
DELL E520 XP MEDIA CENTER 2005 SP3
Intel D945 Dual-Core Processor 3.4Ghz
4GB RAM
250GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
Samsung SH-SD163B DVD Player - latest driver SB02
Samsung SH-S203D DVD Burner - latest driver SB01
(p.c originally equipped with 1 x TSST Burner)
ATI Radeon 1300X Pro Video Card
E-Mu 0404 Sound Card
KRK RP8 Monitors
Other Software :
DELL OEM Software - p.c completely reinstalled from OEM discs (but did not reinstall Roxio Creator DELL Edition as i was looking for a better all-round package - but haven't found one yet !)
MAGIX Samplitude 10 Master Pro Audio Editing and Mastering Software (another hefty 1GB programme)
MAGIX Samplitude 9 se Pro Music Production Software
Cyberlink DVD Player OEM
Acronis True Image 11 Back Up Software (absolute blessing !)
+ Other stuff like Word,Powerpoint etc
****I'm quite good with computers (my DELL works a lot better for it !) and i also do a lot of p.c/laptop reinstalls/software installs/upgrades etc for family and friends - so i know my p.c is in good working order****
P.C has all latest MS Updates
I will try software rendering like you said but if i can't get it to work today i'm binning the software - Roxio have got problems in this department - it's not my set-up or p.c at fault -i've always been able to burn any type/make of disc before and they've always played back

That burn problem is software, burner, or a media problem.
Make a project save it as a ISO Image, now download the free small ImgBurn Current version: 2.4.2.0 burning application 1.87mb here.... http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=download. Pretty simple program for a guy like you "I'm quite good with computers " Burn the Memorex disc at 2.4X, if ImgBurn does burn it and it plays without error, we know where the problem is, don't we!

Downloaded IMGBurn like you said
Test Results (using image exported from MYDVD) :
Memorex Dual-Layer DVD - Burn failed half way through
I also used another DL brand called AONE +
This one burned fine with IMG Burn !
I have tried these discs in Creator 2009 and it came back with the same errors as Memorex
Conclusion ?
Memorex like you said is poor quality
But i wonder why the other brand burned in IMG Burn and not Roxio
What do you think ?

Try the Verbatim! The only DL media worth burning.....
The quality could be so bad that one disc will work the next is junk...

I've just burnt another AOne + DL
It burnt fine with IMG Burn (run out of Memorex)
This is a different movie - the first one had NO menus
This one has a chapter menu and the audio glich problem has arisen again (i have this problem with single-layer DVD's - i mentioned it in an earlier post somewhere in this forum)
It seems there is a link with stuttering/popping audio and the use of menus in a project - no menus=audio ok
I will try Verbatim - but i will have to order them (from a well known online shop !)
This will be my LAST try with Creator 2009 - ANY burn or audio problems and i will remove this product from my p.c
Thanks for your help
