I just moved from a G5 to a Mac Pro (2007 2GHz quad core) with 10.5.6 and Toast 8.0.5 installed. On the G5 I had Toast 6 and 10.4.something. When I recorded multiple quantities of the same CD on the G5 with Toast 6 I was able to use the CD Eject key to close the tray after swapping burned media with blank media. With the Mac Pro, I can no longer do this. The eject icon appears on screen but the tray does not close. The Eject key works in Finder, however. The only way for me to close the tray is by switching to the Toast application and click on "Close Tray". Not the most efficient way to do this since I'm most likely doing something else and would rather not have to go back to Toast every time just to close the disc tray. Another weird thing happens with this version of Toast. Occasionally the blue buttons in dialog boxes blink. When I mean blink I mean that you can see it then the button disappears for a brief moment then comes back. It does this rapidly. Anyone else having these issues?

More info: This is a fresh install of 10.5.6 and I repair permissions before and after each new software install. I even swapped keyboards since I was using an older Mac Pro keyboard. I also zapped PRAM (if that makes any difference).

Thanks!
Greg

So in the past you were able to keep Toast in the background while it was burning multiple copies by using the Eject key rather than the Toast dialogue box to close the tray. I use a Firewire disc burner and always just tap the front of the drawer or press its open/close button and Toast knows when the drawer is closed. I've never tried using the keyboard. Maybe it will work for you to tap the front of the tray. You also might check your CDs and DVDs preference panel to instruct it to Do Nothing when inserting a blank CD or DVD.

I don't know what could be the cause of the briefly disappearing buttons. OS 10.5.6 caused a some problems with Toast. Maybe this is an issue that will be fixed when Apple releases 10.5.7 in a few weeks.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Tsantee, I should clarify a little. Previously, I was able to keep Toast in the background while burning, you are correct. However, Toast would pop up to the front automatically when it needed new blank media. So far this is no different with the new Mac and Toast 8. What is different is with the G5 and Toast 6 I was able to swap media then press the Eject key and the tray would close. With the Mac Pro I need to wait for Toast to pop to the front and I manually click Close Tray or switch to Toast from whichever app I was using and then click that button. Another thing that is weird is the Eject key will not work even in Finder when Toast is running even if it's in the background. I will try your suggestion and report back.

I just went into prefs and set everything to ignore. Still nothing. Like you mentioned, maybe 10.5.7 will address this issue or maybe Roxio will need to fix this. Or maybe this is a subtle way of them telling me I need to buy Toast 10.  smile.gif

I don't think it will be any different with Toast 10. I'm not using a Mac keyboard so it isn't easy for me to check this out myself. Also, my only tray-loading drive is the Firewire drive.

Does clicking the enter or return key tell Toast to close the tray?
