Fast forward/skip on burned dvd(s) unavailable

Hello -
I have a copy of Dell's Movie Creator V1.6.676.1 and have successfully burned a dvd but I cannot fast forward through the dvd on my sony player nor on my media player on my computer.
The dvd has a menu with one selection - could that be the reason?
I do not see an option on the help menu to enable this function prior to burning the dvd.
Any help is most appreciated.
