I am a semi-longtime Roxio user, having moved from Nero some years ago. I have recently bought an iPhone, and am now trying to rip my CD collection for use with iTunes.
Naturally, I wanted to rip to M4A format. I have Creator 8, and have put off upgrading as it did most of what I needed. Realizing that Creator 8 doesn't do M4A, I decided to check out the latest Roxio version to see if it supported M4A. So, off to the Roxio web site I go.
Here has been my experience for the past hour:
- I read the Features tab on Creator 2009, but do not find anything about formats supported.
- I search using Consumer on "itunes m4a" but only find pages about Copy and Convert.
- When I click those pages, I get a 404, and an offer for 10% off my next purchase.
- I change my search, and get a different set of links. They, too, go to a 404, with the same offer.
- I search Support, and get nothing.
- I search the forums, and get something about Creator automatically loading the ripped files into iTunes. If I wanted that, I'd just let iTunes rip them itself. I want to manage the output locations and naming more closely than that.
Now for the fun part -- I try to tell Roxio about my problem finding out something on their web site.
- I click on Contact Us, and choose to fill out an email form. When I try to log in using my already-registered email and password, I'm told it's incorrect.
- So, I hit Reset Password, and have the link sent to my email. I click the link, and type in the password I have used in the past.
When I return to the site, I enter the email and password again, and am told that it's wrong. Didn't I just reset it? - So, I try filling out a support ticket. The form tries to walk me through one of six problems, with no way to say "None of these."
- So, I try to call Sales Support. Again, I get an IVR system with the same six choices, and no way to zero out of it.
Roxio -- all I wanted to know was whether your software did what I need, before I throw $99 at you for something I don't need. Apparently, you must be doing very, very well, since you make it impossible for a potential customer to find out about your software.
I'm off to register dbPoweramp instead.
