Dear Friends
This is the first time I am posting: there may be similar posts earlier. Pl excuse me if I am repeating an issue.

I have a DELL Dimension Desktop with Vista Home premium, SP1
Roxio Creater DE 9 was pre-installed.
Itunes was later installed by me.

Both were fine.
There was a problem with my DVD Drive: it would not complete writing DVDs (all other writes were OK) and the DVD would be useless.
DELL were contacted. In the course of their telephonic advice, they recommended deletion of the upper and lower filters. This did not help the writing problem: they then replaced the DVD drive (TSST) with a new one (PLCD).
The drive appeared OK: but after some days, when I wanted to use Roxio: the application reported "Drive not detected". All other applications could read/write without difficulty. Itunes at launch complained about some set-up settings being missing in the registry, but otherwise was ok.
I tried un-installing and reinstalling Roxio, but it did not help. At the install: set-up reported that BDAV plug-in was incompatible with the OS, and would not be installed. After reinstalling, at start-up, there was a Driver incompatibility report. I downloaded the patch, and this was rectified.
But the drive is still not detected.
I tried reinstalling three or four times ( in the process lost my earlier system restore points !), but no success wtih the drive.
I now find that though I un-install from the Control panel, on restart, the applications are back! and the Video/Audio apps show only upgrade and the Audio/Video Guide. Earlier, they would show the DVD Drive, but nothing would happen if I select it.
I now find detailed instructions on how to completely remove Roxio in this forum.
Could someone advise me on whether this clean install will bring mack Roxio fully? And what I am missing wht the BDAV plug-in?

The Clean Install routine will ONLY work if you have an installation disc - it can't install anything without that. If your OEM version is bundled in with the Dell restore disc, you are out of luck and will need a dedicated EMC disc to do the job

The BDAV plug in was for BluRay discs - but if you don't have a Blu_Ray drive it's not needed really

Also, have you tried uninstalling iTunes to see if that may be contributing to the problem?

You could try this as well (from another thread)

1. Click "Start", in the Start RUN box type "devmgmt.msc" and press "Enter".

2. Expand "DVD/CDROM Drives".

3. Right click the listed DVD/CD-ROM, and click "Uninstall". Please uninstall all devices.

4. Restart the computer.

I have the installation CD.
I took the long way out: clean install and all. And being in a hurry: i took three times the necessary time. I cleaned up all folders and the registry, and installed once : and nothing turned up. I tried cleaning up again, and it refused to uninstall ( suspended installation: I wish someone could tell me how to resume that): I then downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup utility ( That should be a must for people like me who are in a hurry and who know that instructions are to be read FULLy and dont), cleaned up again and re-installed twice.

There was no need for all this.

The Drive Not detected is cleared by the PxEngine update, but my problem was that I downloaded and tried pxengine4_10_28a.exe; this did not solve this problem. The link provided in the forum is to pxengine3_00_58a.exe: this cleared the issue. I do not know if that is correct!!
The fix installs a lowerfilters key with value pxhelp20 (this driver btw does not seem to exist on Vista)
The itunes problem is cleared by (I think) creating an upperfilters key with GEARAspiWDM as value. Or maybe the lowerfilters key installed by the pxengine patch would have solved it too. Now both the upper and lower filters exist.
Winamp burner could not detect(?) a blank disc for burning: Winamp played cds fine. The pxengine patch cleared this also.
