I've tried burning several times but get several different results:
1. Runtime error VideoUI 11/videowave11.exe R6025 pure virtual function call
2. Disc finished burning but does not play on any of my dvd players
3. Program finishes encoding but during writing portion, message says "invalid media" (I'm using DVD-R dvds)

What is the problem? The first few times, I tried burning quite a bit of content (about 35-40 minutes avchd content onto standard dvd) but I've also tried to burn just 2 or 3 minutes of content also and got the "invalid media" message.

I'll admit, my computer is getting old but I figure I should at least be able to burn 2 or 3 minutes worth. I have a Dell E510 (Pentium 4, 160 Gb, 1 gig RAM, 3.0 MHz) running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

One can only take a guess but it sure sounds like the media you are using is Junk!

We never hear complaints from using Verbatim.

It helps when you include what the actual program you are using is??? I am guessing MyDVD because it is the only one capable of burning AVCHD to standard DVD.

Yes, I'm using MyDVD. The last few tries, i've been trying with Sony DVD-R discs. However, when I was getting the runtime error message and the "finished" disc, but it didn't play, I was using Phillips Lightscribe DVD-Rs. Can it really be that both these brands have issues with burning?

Small correction...the runtime error and "finished" disc that doesn't play was with HP DVD-R discs (not Phillips).

While Sony & HP have never made a disc in their life, their QC requirements are pretty high!

RW discs are great to use for troubleshooting and experimenting…

One other thing that is not clear – what is your desired output???

The Standard version of 2009 can output as a DVD Movie or an AVCHD on DVD.

The latter is not playable in any Player unless was made specifically for AVCHD – most Blu-Ray players are for example.

The CinePlayer 5.0 included with also play AVCHD so you might want to test a disc with that.

I appreciate your help. I'll give it a try with some RW discs I have. The end product I want is to be able to play my movies recorded in avchd on my standard dvd player (not blu ray). When I opened up MyDVD, the selection I chose for the type of project was "avchd project (hd on standard dvd)". Are you saying that this is the wrong selection if I have a non-Blu ray player? I was under the impression that the program would convert avchd into a format that would be playable on a standard player. Should I just be choosing "DVD project"?

Thanks again.

Not going to happen - Standard DVD Player is incapible of playing a AVCHD disc!!! Look in your manual.

The AVCHD selection in MyDVD will put a HD format onto a DVD disc, not the other way around.

Simple solution - Select a DVD project. That will reduce your HD to standard DVD level but what you are asking is impossible.

I tried selecting "dvd project" after my last post and it worked. I only did it with a very shot clip so let's hope it works ok with a full disc worth of footage. Thanks again for your help

Yes it will but a 4.7Gb DVD at HQ can only hold about 1 hour of video. More than that and video quality is sacrificed to fit it on the disc…

Keep your eye out for a BD Player, got mine for about $200 but prices will continue to come down. AVCHD on a DVD when played through a BD player will knock your socks off!

Even then watch for 2 things. That the Player can play AVCHD and you have a TV with a HDMI connection.

My Sony BD only outputs HD through the HDMI connection. The RCA cables it has will not output greater than Standard DVD.
