Hi!

Dell Dimension E-520 Core-2-duo 1.83 /Vista Home Premium SP1/Roxio Creator DE 9 (OEM Version only)

I am not sure if this is the right forum: hopefully I will get redirected if not.

I have a MiniDVT camcorder (MV920)
I do not have a 1394 port on my machine.
Both PCI Slots are occupied.
I am not able to locate a 1394 PCIExpress card in India.
I found references to a USB capture device from Roxio
   Is it available separately ?
Will this be compatible with my machine?
Can other software (Moviemaker/DVDmaker etc) record using this? (I think Creator DE cannot.)
Is there is any problem of dropped frames/loss in quality when transfering to HDD?

I am new to this, but would like to know if what I will be doing is inferior ( and to what degree) to other options

Thanks!!

Mohan

Does the camera have a USB output connection? If not then your only option is the Firewire connection and you will have to somehow get a 1394 card into your system.
Also the EMC 9 DE version you have is a OEM version which has many features (present in the full retail version) missing and/or crippled and thus may not even work even if you find a 1394 card for your system.

Ummmm. My camera has no USB output, but can I not not use the Analog AV output (V, L, R) to connect to the USB capture device and thence to the Dell?

Will installing Creator 2009 be difficult? And I have seen many posts where Creator 2009 has acted up with Vista.

Thanks a lot

Mohan

You can try the analog output into the USB device and see if it works. That setup may also work with Windows Movie Maker.
