Vista 64 Bit
Roxio Creator DE (Dell) – Problem
Just bought Roxio Creator 2009 – same problem:

Burn Data Disc.
Burns to DVD+R first time OK.
(Track at Once – Open)
Reload Disk
Disc is recognised as open. Loads previous files.
Add more files to list and then burn.
Error - files are not added. Disc is finalized and closed (last files do not appear on disc when read).

Have tried File systems ISO + Joliet and  ISO + Joliet + UDF.  Result is same.
DMA is enabled
Windows says burner software is up to date.

I am Guessing you are using Data Disc???????

You have to go under Tools and set the option to Automatically load previous sessions.

Frankly even then DD is a little funky with discs and sessions.

I think you will have better luck if you use Creator Classic (Data Disc – Advance)

CC will do a pop up when it sees a disc with sessions or it will also allow you choose to import prior sessions.

Jim,
Yes, I was using Burn Data Disk.

Tried Classic as you suggested.
Pretty much the same outcome:
First burn is OK and disc is left open.
Reload and import previous session as prompted.
Append another file.
Burn.
After a minute or so it says burn is completed and ejects disc.
However, when you reload disc again latest files have not been added and disc is closed.

Appreciate your help.
Keith

Ouch!

One thing I missed in Classic is that after you click Burn, you MUST make sure the checkmark by Read Only is clear!!! – Sorry

However, if the files are not added and 2 different programs give the same result…

One other thing to check. Use Vista's Master Writing! If that fails it is your burner.

Put in a new blank disc - Open explorer – use Send To and send it a couple of files.

Eject disc then reinsert and add some more.

What happens?

Jim,

Vista Master Write works OK.
While checking Vista settings I noticed under DVD drive properties, global settings:
Default - Automatically close current UDF session when disc is ejected.  I unticked this box thinking there might be a conflict with Creator settings.

Creator.
Read Only is unticked.
I also installed PX Engine update.

Basically still the same for both Burn Data Disc and Classic.

I tried a CD-RW and this works, files can be appended later.
Problem seems to be with DVDs:
Burns fine first time.
Reload and import session.
Second burn - files not added properly and disc is finalized.

Interesting...

Vista Burn settings cannot change anything in Roxio. Likewise the one you set was for Vista Live File Burning and won't change anything in Vista Mastered Burning.

Actually, with 2 completely different programs in Roxio giving the same result, I would bet there is a firmware update for the drive that needs to be applied.

From the Home app, Tools – Get Disc Info will show you the Burners Firmware version. Write it down and check on the manufactures site for a newer firmware.

Plan B is to do the Clean Install  of Roxio - Vista

Jim,
The drive is a PLDS DH-16A6S as supplied by Dell with the machine recently (Jan 2009).
Cannot find a firmware update anywhere.
Phillips / Lite-on do not seem to have released any.

Jim,
OK, I did a clean install as you suggested.
Also got rid of all the Creator DE stuff in similar manner.

It now appears to be working OK.

Thanks for your help.

Regards, Keith
