Hi,
TiVo in Australia has just enabled Home Networking. TiVo Australia instruct Mac users to use Toast 10 to support this. However when I run Toast Setup Assistant to enable this, the page asking about TiVo transfers doesn't come up. Is this feature not enabled for Australia, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Chris C.

I had the same problem and found if I set my Mac OS X timezone to New York (using System Preferences) before installing Toast I was offered the option to install TiVo Transfer.

Alternately, you can install it manually by:

  • Opening /Applications/Toast 10 Titanium
  • Control click Toast Toast Tianium.app
  • Select Show Package Contents
  • Double click Contents
  • Double click Resources
  • Double click TiVoTransfer.tar.gz
  • Drag TiVo Transfer.app to the /Applications/Toast 10 Titanium folder
  • Double click TiVo Transfer.app and enter your Media Access Key (MAK) from the My TiVo website

Hopefully Roxio will fix this in their next update, but for now either of these solutions work.

Thanks, changed my timezone to US and setup assistant offered the option. I know the TiVo product guys in Australia I'll give them a blast for not testing before launching the service.

Blast them for restricting the DVD burning function while you're at it ;-)

Does anyone know how to unrestrict it, or to export to another file format on the Mac?

I want to edit it so I just keep the content I want, and Tivo Transfer doesn't provide editing.

Note that people have been able to copy content between two VHS players since around 30 years ago, so this would not be breaking particularly radical technical or copyright boundaries. In fact, I think it's standard functionality if we use something like Elgato Eye TV instead of the TiVo for our recording . . . It just seems to be TiVo / Toast that's restricting users capabilities, which is not a very user oriented approach!

I also had to change my timezone to "New York" with the Toast 10.0.2 installation to get the option to install the TiVo Transfer application.

Then once install, when I ran it, it was unable to find my TiVo. Restarting the TiVo seems to have 'fixed' that problem and it is currently transfering a movie to my Mac.

What a lot of hassle! They ( TiVo Australia and Roxio ) need to get their act together, even if they are unable to update the installer at the moment, at least some notes for Australia customers would help.

oh my goodness. Crunchy nut - you are f'n awesome!!! I used to have a pc and my tivo software worked fabulous. I had no idea I would have to spend $80+ for the software to run my mac with my Tivo. But. anyway, I bought the roxio software back in November of 09. Never got the darn thing to to work, I could bring my photos and music to my TV through my Tivo, but never could transfer my recordings to my mac. But thanks to your posting of 3/22/09 I am actually transferring as we speak! I cannot thank you enough. I had written Roxio twice in the past but never got any real assistance and I just basically tore out my hair and gave up. Trust me, I have spent hours and hours trying to make this work in the past. Mahalo, Mahalo and Mahalo from Kauai. You rock Crunchy Nut!!!!!!!
