I am trying to do a clean install of EMC 8. It appears that the install almost completes and then a box appears that says"please insert the disk" Of course, the disk is already in. I press OK but the box just comes back. Pressing cancel causes the whole install to abort and roll back. Anybody have any explanation?

Suggestion: copy the disc to your hard drive and then install from there.  Perhaps there is a scratch or dirt on the disc.  If you can't copy it, that is a good indication that the disc is bad.  You can try cleaning it with a commercial disc cleaner/restorer.

Did you follow the clean install procedure exactly as written including using Microsoft Installer Clean-up Utility?  Did you stop all process before uninstalling?  Do you have the required free space on your hard drive, defragged?  Are you installing with your anitvirus off.  all those are important.

Are you sure it is not asking for the content disc?
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
