This is frustrating and perhaps someone can help me troubleshoot: MyDVD doesn't seem to burn a project with certain WMV files, but does fine with others. I don't receive any error messages, the burn just finishes quickly but doesn't burn anything. Here are the details:

I'm using the MyDVD module within Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate to create a DVD project with just a single menu of 4 videos. The videos are all WMV format files created from Pure DIgital's FlipShare software (i.e., "Flip Video"). The resulting WMV files play just fine in Windows Media Player AND load and play in the preview features of Creator without any apparent problem.

When I select "burn project" I get the burn progress dialog box reporting "encoding movie 1 of 4" But then very quickly (just seconds)  the progress bars move to 100% for overall progress and current task, but the DVD drive lights did not light up and nothing is on the DVD+R. I also tried to burn a disk image file instead, and this also does not work, showing the same symptoms. There are no error messages.

Curiously, when I create a project with OTHER "sample" WMV files that came prepackaged with Windows, the burn works fine and I get a completed DVD disc. The computer can also burn DVD data discs successfully. I used the Help button on the Creator home page to check for updates but did not find anything ("Software Manager did not find any updates"). I've been able to use Creator's VideoWave slide show module to successfully create and burn videos.

Any brilliant thoughts on possible problems or how I can trouble shoot this issue?

Preview ran fine (although sometimes when I do this the the program stops responding). I also validated the project and it no problems were reported.

You may have to do something to those video files to get them to work with Roxio

FYI: "Validate", checks to see if the files you used are still in the location you chose them from… nothing more!!!

It think Syrallas hit the nail on the head – they have to be converted to Standard Video files before you can use them.
