For those of you that have had error messages, like Sense Key Medium error, Sense Code = 0x0C and such....
Well I have these errors of late and have not been able to burn a dvd using an external burner for a while now after upgrading to Toast 9.0.5.
I have written and rec'd help from Roxio, and finally I have had some success. I am writing this because all the helpful hints I have found
in this forum have not had any effect for me....

The following is what tech support wrote to me:

You will need to perform a clean install of Toast 9. Please follow all of the instructions below:

1.) Please trash the following files:

com.roxio.Toast.plist
-and-
Roxio Toast Prefs
*and any com.roxio files located here

These files can be found at and will need to be removed from both of these locations:
Hard Drive/Library/Prefrences/
(user name)/Library/Prefrences/

2.) Trash the Toast 9 Titanium folder(and all other Toast folders) from the applications folder and trash the Dock icon for Toast 9

3.) Run Disk Utility (located in Applications/Utilities folder) and Repair Disk Permissions on the hard disk.

4.) Restart and Reinstall using only the Toast Titanium 9.0.2.dmg Update file found at the following link:

http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/toast/software_updates.html

Once you have reinstalled, please drag the .dmg file to the Applications folder to complete the installation.

--------This initially didn't work for me but after trying again Toast seems to behaving (better) now.-----
One thing is that the link given didn't go to Toast 9.0.2, but to 9.0.5. I was fortunate to have saved a copy of 9.0.2. (at least I couldn't find 9.0.2 on Roxio's website).

Also, in addition, I deleted Toast files found in: user/library/application support/Roxio. And the file located in: Root/library/application support/Roxio.
I'm not sure if this was necessary though.

So far I have burned several successful discs with no error messages. Before, as noted by a few others in the forum, Toast would compress the video file and then would suddenly quit and give error messages just as soon as it begins to write to the disc. It was driving me crazy. I tried everything I could do. Trashed preference, switched from firewire to usb, turning on/off different preferences.... repaired permissions from a boot disk...

As for the person who wrote in the forum about not being able to drag audio files directly from itunes into Toast anymore, I share your same pain. This bug still exists for me. All was fine up until I updated Toast recently.... Using Toast's media browser is just not as convenient or fast.
One odd thing. My brother started to have the same burning problems using the same burner just as soon after I updated Toast and began to have problems. It's really strange. He never updated.... yet he gets the same errors. I am curious to see if he still has these problems after
my semi-successful fix.

Side note. Does anyone have the bug where the movie preview window will hide behind the main Toast window just as soon as you click any of the dvd controls, like FF or pause/stop....????

Anyways, Sorry for the longish post. I wish all good luck, and good burning. Hope this may help at least some of you.

This week I had the same trouble you are referring to, at Christmas time I used the same media type, same drive (in my macbook pro) and same Toast 9.0.2 and was able to make DVD's with no problem at all. All of a sudden now it doesn't work. I thought it might be that I didn't have the Toast update, so I went ahead and installed 9.0.5. Same problem with Sense Key Medium error, Sense Code 0X0C, write error, my problem is the disk gets stuck in the drive, for around 15 minutes after I quit Toast then it it eventually spits out.

Only thing that maybe has changed is routine software updates from Apple since then, so don't know what could be wrong. Are you saying I should do a clean install of Toast 9.0.5 now and try that?
