It's pretty straight forward. Add what you want to burn to the Toast window, insert a blank disc and click the big red button.

There is a Getting started guide that opens when you choose Toast Help. It explains the different areas of Toast: Data, Audio, Video, Copy and Convert. (The convert section is not for burning discs but for converting audio and video files to other formats).
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thanks, I don't want to receive loads of spam, but how do I communicate with some one who can explain in simple language," HOW TO BURN YOUR FIRST DISC USING TOAST 9, ON A MacBook.
Please keep in contact, as I would appreciate any help I can get.

Regards,

Peter Williams

1. Make certain you've updated to Toast 9.0.5.
2. Open Toast
3. Choose the kind of disc you want to make: Data, Audio, Video or Copy an existing disc and choose that appropriate window using the icons on the top left of the Toast window.
4. Choose the appropriate setting. For a data disc I recommend Mac & PC format.
5. For the data window click New Disc and name the disc. Then add what you want to burn by either clicking the Add button or dragging directly to the Toast window from the Finder.
6. Insert a blank disc and click the red button

I realize you want to communicate via email, but I don't do that. Sorry.
