Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and would appreciate some help on 2 issues I'm having with the SDMP application that came pre-installed on my Hp notebook. I'm running WinXp service pack 3. I did some updates on the app,ie: SonicAC3encoder,Sonicmpegencoder.

These are the issues I'm having,

1.The app doesn't seem to recognize my burned dvd-rws. The discs contain dvd movie files on them. The app does ,however, recognize blank dvd-rws of the same brand(memorex). I also tried the same exact kind of discs that contain data files and they were recognized. I have another notebook that has the same SDMP software and the discs with the issue were recognized there. So I'm at a lost as to what can be causing the problem. The discs were burned using the Sonic app on this pc that now doesn't recognize them. I'd like to mention that I did numerous reinstalls and even went as far as completely reformatting my pc to no avail. I also chatted with numerous HP reps but all they told me was to reinstall the software which doesn't fix the problem. I started to think that its the files on the disc that got corrupted somehow so I erased the discs on my other pc and see if they were recognized on this pc with the Sonic app issue. Sure enough they were recognized. Just to be a little more clear on this, when I say recognize, the Sonic app should display disc info when a disc is inserted. On the bottom left hand corner of the app is a cd icon that should display how much space is used and title, if any, of the disc. Also when you click onto the disc info menu it should supply the info of the disc thats in the drive. The discs that contain the dvd movies aren't being recognized. My dvd drive has no issues with the discs.

2.This problem just started about 2 days ago when I tried burning a movie from files on the HD using Sonic MYDVD. I had no problems adding files before but now it doesn't accept IFO and or VOB files. I tried AVI files and they were accepted but the files are too large to put onto a standard dvd-rw disc. The files that I'm trying to add were avi converted to ifo ,vob using ConvertX3, which I downloaded off the internet. The first movie file I tried adding gave me this error message, "Could not make thumbnail. Make sure the appropriate decoder is installed 47010". I've read on some other forums that it was caused by missing codecs but I've downloaded many different codec packs and none of them seem to work. I recall previously when using the Sonic app that I didn't have any issues with adding dvd files so Im kinda confused. Another movie file I tried gave me another error message which I have no clue what it means. It says "runtime error MAP_EN_NS out of range -3."

Can anyone shed some light on these issues. This has been driving me nuts trying to figure it out. I know I can just use another program which I am currently but I just wanna know whats causing these problems. I've been working on this for over a month now. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

Nevermind. I finally figured it out. Apparently my version that came pre-installed on my pc doesn't support IFO,VOB files because when I add the avi files it automatically converts them to the proper format. So I did a test burn and see if the dvd played in a standard dvd player and sure enough it did. This has been driving me nuts for over a month and FINALLY after all this testing and numerous times spent searching and chatting with support from the manufacturers site I figured it out. Theres so many glitches with this program that I don't really want to use it anymore. I will revert to a more better and user friendly burn software which I can download for free from the internet for future burns. rolleyes.gif
