Hi guys, long time reader first time poster.

I have been testing v6 Platinum and was wondering if someone could recommend a DVD R drive (IDE) that would be:

1) Compatible with v6
2) Perform well for general use ie music, iso's, etc
3) Able to write clear text (I think that's what it's called)
4) DVD compatibility with other hw.

This is my first outing with DVD R so please be gentle with me.

I have tested v6 on a 98SE system and once all the unnecessary start up clutter has been taken care of, it seems to run fine with no issues (obviously making sure that NO IE7, WMP11, any Real garbage)

I understand that v6 would probably only work with single layer discs which is fine.

One last thing I dual boot 98SE so this optical drive must be compatible (don't think that should create any issues).

Any recommendation much appreciated.

PS Still have EZCD Creator v5 Platinum on a couple of other systems which I still dearly love (so far).

It is a 6 year old program and 5 versions behind… generally any burner will do. It was the first to use dynamic detection, where the burner tells Windows what it is and what it can do and the program asks Windows.

Being the 1st it wasn't 100% but a lot of that fell on manufactures who failed to meet the required standards.

What is 'clear text'???

Compatibility? – if the disc is Authored, it is compatible. What are you looking for?

You know that a disc is not some sort of shinny floppy? It is Optical Media and lives by its' own rules. The only similarity between Optical Media and Magnetic Media is that both are round!

Don't have it installed at the moment, but I am reformatting an older PC and it will go on it when done!

It has a newer DVD-RAM drive ($30) guess it will work. (let you know a few hours from now)

I always liked V6 but the real video power started in V7.

Update: Yes new drive works fine in V6

Burning Video is not something that I have any real need for. My attraction to the older versions is that they have small footprints.

Now to find a drive that burns without too many errors.  The Pioneer's DVR range seems good according to the review sites.

Now for the lucky dip of getting the drive. From reading the review and (user comments) the Pioneer PVR-111D is a likely candidate for me.

I note that the supported drives list features the Pioneer PVR range but stops at model 107D. I know from previous experience ie purchasing drives for EZCD5 that drives not on the supported list can be correctly detected & identified by the software ie Creator.

In the event that it is of interest once I get the Pioneer DVD-R, I will let you know whether Creator 6 correctly detected & identified this optical.

ECDC 5 had the beginning of "Dynamic Drive Detection" installed, and picks up my two drives without fuss or needing an amendment.

Version 6 should be even more advanced, but there were many things awry in version 6 to there can be no guarantees. It should pick up all those on the list, and might pick up a truckload more but I can't say.

Brendon in the event that this may be of use to you [or other users].

Creator 6 has correctly identified a Pioneer DVR-112D. I did upgrade the engine to v6.2.0.134 as well as DU20041203.  Seems to have no isssues in respect of copying either CDRs or DVD+Rs. I noted that the DVR-111D was on the list and strongly suspected that the 112D might also work.

Yes have to agree v6 does seem more shaky than v5.

It also took me ages to find and disable all non required start ups that this prog installs.

Hello, hope you dont mind me resurrecting this thread.

Could I possibly have the compatibility listas well please?

After a few years using creator 6 with my LG CDRW drive, it finally died and I upgraded to 2 new drives, one USB Freecom DVD writer and one internal Pioneer DVD-R writer.

Unfortunately creator won't write to either of them, it gets past 2 minutes then just locks solid; I assume its a drive/hardware issue. The drives write ok with MS Media Player.

I also have v6 on a laptop and it wont write with the USB Freecom drive either.

You could try following the directions in post #6.
