My dvd player should be able to do this but it just tells me disc error. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong??

Take a blank disc out of the package or off the spindle and put it in the drive.  DO NOT FORMAT!!!

Then record the DVD.

If you format it, it is formatted by Drag2Disc, and will only work with Drag2Disc - not any of the reliable programs in the suite.

Never format a CD or DVD unless you want to use a packet writing package such as Drag to Disc ... which is only used for creating data discs (a very unreliable way to archive data BTW)
To create a video DVD you have to use the myDVD program from the EMC 8 suite.

A lot more information required such as what program from EMC suite are you using, what exactly are you trying to copy to DVD, are you trying to create a video DVD, data, or audio?

Some older DVD players can't handle all forms of DVDs.  Be sure that the DVD you are using is a compatible media type with your DVD player. Check the lable on the DVD media with your DVD player specs.  Also, be sure that the DVD has been finalized.

The OP formatted his discs so they will never work when trying to creating a video DVD no matter if the media is compatible with the player or not. Also video DVDs are automatically finalized.

If your Roxio came with your computer or burner then it is most likely an OEM version which will have many features disabled/crippled and the required decoder also missing. From where did you download and in what format?

myguggi,

The OP still needs to ensure that a compatible media type is being used.  There is no getting around that requirement.

If your downloaded video file is in DivX avi format then your Roxio version will not be able to use that video since OEM versions usually have the DivX decoder missing. One possibility is to see if your DVD player is able to play DivX video directly. If yes then just copy the video file to the DVD and play it.

You use the Creator Classic part of the suite and burn a data disc (DO NOT FORMAT THE DISC). If your DVD player can play Divx files as you stated, it should be able to then list the .avi file on that kind of disc and play it.

Ok, thanks. Sorry.

Ok. I tried that and it said that it would take 15 min to burn. The time ran out about 1hr ago and it still says burning disc, please wait... above that it says Progress: 0KB of 1.1GB (0 sectors of 555,989 sectors) this would lead me to believe that it is not working. Is this correct? If so, any other ideas?

What about downloading DVD Flick for free. Do you think this would be easier for me? Is it safe?
