Hi.
I have the error message "The contents of this VIDEO_TS folder cannot be compressed"
Yes I know, I'm not the first to say that, but I have some information that you didn't have before.
1) it's not a ripped DVD. This DVD project is build with DVD Studio Pro. (I also have this error with other authoring programs).
2) That is the error in english. In french the error is "Le contenu de ce dossier VIDEO_TS ne peut pas être manipulé" . manipulé can be translate to Manipulated and do not realy have the same signification as crompressed.
3) I'm the developer of myDVDEdit. Yes, I can say I know how DVD works, and I do not understand why Toast does not want to burn my VIDEO_TS folder.
(no unrefenced resources, no protections, no script errors)
4) I can reproduce this error with a less than 1 MB DVD project, so I can give it to you if you want to. just tell me how.
If you find what is wrong with this DVD, may be I could add some code in myDVDEdit to fixe it.

Does the VIDEO_TS have PCM audio? If it does then it may be the audio is taking up so much of the space available on a single-layer disc there isn't enough room left for the video. This is common when users try to compress a dual-layer iDVD disc image.

I greatly appreciate all you've done with MyDVDEdit and often have recommended it to others. Toast doesn't "compress" the video; it requantizes it. Either terminology you reference is not technically accurate.

That eliminates those possible explanations. Toast does require everything referenced to be present.

I don't understand what you are describing. It would have to be larger than 4.38 GB before Toast would activate Fit-to-DVD so it doesn't make sense to me that you would see any such message with any VIDEO_TS folder smaller than that.
This makes me wonder if you have encountered an corruption of Toast preferences so it no longer knows that a single-layer video DVD is 4.38 GB but instead a very much smaller size. In this case trashing the plist and prefs files in your user library and relaunching Toast should resolve it.

Roxio's staff does not frequent the forums very often. But if we still can't resolve it I can try to bring their attention to this topic.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

No PCM audio. No audio at all.
Maybe that could be the problem ?

I was just talking about the message I have in french.

I never use Toast to with the Fit-to-DVD option on. I use it to burn my DVD projects and try them on real DVD players.

I will try.

This sounds true to me. Although Fit-to-DVD is not actually an issue here, Toast demuxes before it starts that process. It can't demux when there isn't any audio stream present. That could be causing it to present the error.
Since you already have a completed DVDSP project have you tried using the DVD-Rom (UDF) setting in the Data window and adding our VIDEO_TS folder there? Toast should handle it just as a data file and not attempt to read the IFO.
