I used Backup MyPC which was part a Roxio Suite I purchased with good success... however, after crash and re-format, all data (including the Sonic Software!) are locked up in a .qic file. What current Roxio/Sonic products will restore that file back to my computer?

You will need to install the BackUp MYPC program that created the backup.

lol ... wow ogdens... what a great idea! however, I dont have access to that Media Creator suite install .exe until I restore from the .qic file (didnt I say that?) Anyway, I find the whole Roxio/Sonic product line so ambiguous and confusing as to the functionality and purpose of each application. Which one is which and what does each do? Does it work with LightScribe or not? Is it backward compatible with .qic files or not? (no need to reply to those questions... i'm frustrated at this point and probably ignorant)

Beautiful analogy Jim, thats exactly what I did... locked the combination in a safe (I know you are about to fall out of your chair laughing!).... and I was so proud of myself for backing (locking?) EVERYTHING up before starting the re-format! Anyway, I had the Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 6.0. I downloaded it from Digital River a couple of years ago, but the download was only good for 30 days and have aready been through it with them to make the download available again (unless they have changed their policies?).

Am currently searching for a pirated or demo version now to install so that I can recover the original .exe... I'm laughing at myself and thinking more clearly after some sleep!

Correction... it is Easy Media Creator 9.0... and I got it extracted with a pirated version of Backup MyPC! Don't worry Roxio, I have already removed it and re-installed the licensed version.... and put a copy on my restore drive!

Thought to consider for next time: new Hard Drivs are very cheap these days.

If instead of reformatting the old drive, you replace it and keep the old one for a spare, you won't paint yourself into a corner like that next time ...

Actually... part of the backup process, if you tell it to do a full backup, is to make a bootable recovery disc, so you don't have to have the full thing installed, as I recall. You can then pop the bootable disc in your drive, and restore from your backup media. A very useful little item to have around. (And be sure to test it before you need it.)
