Trimming Audio Tracks Manual says it can be done...but doesn't tell you how

I have Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Toast 9.0.5.

It states on page 72 — Making An Audio CD — that you can "trim tracks, adjust levels..." etc. but then tells you virtually nothing as to how to go about doing this. On the Crossfades page 75 it contains a "Tip" which states: "Double-click a track to display...other audio options, such as track trimming and advanced mastering options."

Well, I've done that and it brings up a window with a space for the title, artist and pause time setting, and then at the bottom has a section called "Mastering" with a blank line next to the letters ISRC — what is that? — and two boxes to check for Digital Preemphasis and Digital Copy Prohibited, the latter of which is pre-checked.

And...that's it. Nothing about the features it said double-clicking a track would reveal. Nothing about trimming, nothing about level adjustments.

When I click on the fade icon next to the track, it brings up a window to set fade outs by different lengths and a Custom option which brings up more graphs and two sliding controls at the bottom, but there's absolutely no instructions as to how to use these features. This couldn't be more unhelpful. I did manage to make an early fade on a track, but then the track continue on for its original length with 30 seconds of silence instead of ending after the point where I'd made the fade.

Please!!! Is there any step-by-step guide as to how to really use these features, as Toast apparently can't be bothered to let us know themselves...

To re-cap my two questions about supposedly possible features:

1. How do you trim off part of a track?
2. How do you adjust the level of an individual track that may be too loud or quiet?

Thank-you for any assistance!

Click and hold on the text which shows the length of the track and a window pops up that has Track Trim as a selection at the bottom.

There are good tips for the audio features at the lower-right portion of Toast's knowledgebase page here. One has information about the Gain control. You also can use the Normalize Track control to create even sound levels between tracks from different sources.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thanks; I'll try these out. I just made two huge simultaneous leaps from Mac OSX 10.3.9 to OS X 10.4.11 and Toast 7 to Toast 9, so there's a lot of new stuff to absorb, and the Toast manual isn't very helpful in a, 'do this step-by-step to achieve this' kinda way that an easily confused technophobe like myself needs...

I appreciate the assistance!
