Will Not Burn To Dl Disks Or Images
#1
Posted 26 April 2009 - 09:50 PM
the size of the file that it writes is 3.7GB in size. I have set the drive size in the taskbar to 8.5GB and the compression rate to fit to Disk, and win
I call the burn dialog it has that I have a 8.5 disk in the drive for the burn and that it will use 8.3GB of space. And the burn runs for about
3 Hour's, But at the end of the Burn my DL+ disk is 3.7GB in size. But all the menus and video file work. But the Quate is poor.
In the Creator 9 Version of the program I did'nt have this problem. I was able to write to a 8.5GB DL+ Disk with the Fit to Disk option.
But in Creator 2009 all I am able to writhe is a 4.7GB Single lager disk. I have also tried to write the disk as a Image file, but only about
to write the 4.7GB's in size. Not able to write over 4.7GB's in Fit to Disk.
Thank you
Jim

What is the length of the project (time)?
Approximant target times for High Quality are 1 hour for a 4.7 Gb and 2 hours for a 8.5 Gb.
If those times are exceeded, best results are achieved by setting it to HQ in MyDVD and burning to file (ISO). Then use Video Copy and Convert to burn that ISO file onto your disc.
For some reason VCC does a better job of re-rendering to fit a disc than MyDVD does. We keep hoping that it will find its’ way into MyDVD someday…

Can you please tell me if I have this right.
-You have set up a project for a DL [8.5 GB] disc, and the burn dialog tells you it will use 8.3 GB of the available space
-But when you click it to burn it uses only 3.7 GB, and the video quality is awful.
-You didn't have this trouble in EMC 9, which could write a good quality DL disc, using 'fit to disc'.
Am I right so far?
Can you explain what you mean by the last part please? I don't understand.
But in Creator 2009 all I am able to writhe is a 4.7GB Single lager disk. I have also tried to write the disk as a Image file, but only about to write the 4.7GB's in size. Not able to write over 4.7GB's in Fit to Disk.

Yes Brendon you have it right.
-my project that I am tring to burn is 8.3 GB with about 33mb of space left on the 8.5GB DVD that is display in the Burn dialog.
- But win I do the burn the finished DVD or Image is only 3.7 GB in size and the video quality is awful.
- I have just tried this burn in EMC 9, and did'nt have any trouble with the burn.
In the last part of my message all I was saying was the all I was able to burn in Creator 2009 with a 4.7GB Disk, or Image File.
Thank you
Jim

Brendon is in a different time zone and he is getting much needed sleep now. He should be back late afternoon US time.
If Roxio actually shrunk 8.3GB to 3.7GB, that sounds like you had 'fit to disc' selected for a single layer DVD?
Could you explain more in detail, settings and name the programs used in the Roxio Suite, making the "video quality is awful disc"?
I would like to tell you a Dual Layer disc's won't hold 8.5GB, it's the way the math is done.

I call the burn dialog it has that I have a 8.5 disk in the drive for the burn and that it will use 8.3GB of space.
Following up on Jim's post above (post #2), set the quality to HQ (in the lower right corner of MyDVD program) with the disc size (lower left corner of MyDVD program) set to DL (which you mentioned you did). Create an image file from those settings and use Video Copy and Convert to burn onto a single layer DVD disc.

Yes The settings at the Bottom of the screen in the task bar are
Disk Size: 8.5
Quality : Fit to Disk
This is the same setting that I used in Creator 9 with no problems writing to a 8.5 Disk.
and the output from that disk was about 7.5GB in size.
But now with Creator 2009 my Output from this Disk is 3.7GB with about the same size Project.
I have used both sony and Verbatim DVD +R DL disc.

Try what Jess suggested, in Post #6 of this thread. Fit to Disc is junk, even if you can get it to work. The video quality isn't up to snuff.

Nope, DL disc. I missed the part about a single layer disc. The main point is, don't use Fit to Disc.
Should I have waited for you to come back to suggest that?

No, Jim Hardin did that in post # 2, Jess repeated it in post # 6, you mentioned it again in post # 8.
I thought that twice was enough on that subject...

I have been missing all the fun and confusion, but I'm back now.
It seems to be the general consensus that "fit to disc" in Creator 2009 is defective, and it's suggested you use the workaround of
-turning off 'fit to disc'
-make a HQ DL image
-use Video Copy & Convert to burn to a DL disc
