To all who can help -

I have a Dell Inspriron 5000 which originally had a CD drive when I first received the computer. I had purchsed Backpack CD writer which had Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.02. This computer really is a second unit for my gaming data, but I upgraded the hard drive, added wireless internet connect and added additional RAM to it. I also purchased a Sony CD-RW CRX800E drive to replace the original CD drive. I thought it would be as simple as swapping the drives and everything would work - WRONG. When I went to use the web-checkup I came to this site but could not find any updates for this program. I need help in locating the updates so I can use the new drive I purchased. For reference I am running Windows 2000. Yes I understand I am a little behind the times, but since this is not my main computer, I would still like it to work correctly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

GusK

Hello GusK,

There are NO UPDATES to ECDC 4 which will enable it to work with a CRX800E. The first version of Easy CD Creator which recognized that drive was 5.02b.

Web Checkup was discontinued many years ago before EXDC was assigned from Adaptec to the new Roxio company. Since then Roxio has been swallowed by Sonic. Your ECDC 4.02 is about six years past end-of-life I'm sorry.

Brendon

Brendon -

I appreciate your assistance.

Is my only option to purchase Sonic software and use it with my new drive? If so, where?

Best regards,

Gusk

You MIGHT still be able to find ECDC 5 at eBay or amazon.com or similar.  Note the difference between an OEM (Basic) Version and the Platinum (full) Version, altho since you've been working with an OEM Version it may not matter beyond knowing what you're getting.

ECDC 5 is a pleasant improvement over ECDC 4.

Version 6 is a completely different program, and EMC 7 is completely different again.  (EMC 7.5 is a combination of Roxio's EMC 7 and Sonic's RecordNow, from when they were merged.)   When you get to EMC 7 / 7.5, check your machine specs against what it calls for - and make sure your machine exceeds that because sales has erred on the low side.

With Win2000, you can't go any higher than EMC 9.  The update to EMC 9.1 blocks Win2000.  (Do not confuse EMC 9 with Creator 2009 - why they named it that instead of EMC 11 is one of the mysteries of the sales department.

Or, you could try to find an older but still-functional drive, and check with Brendon as to whether it is supported.

Lynn -

Thanks for your help, I did see something on EBay for ECDC5.3. I am going to give it a shot and hope for the best. I really do not need anything that is fancy or with a millions features, just plain coping data onto a disc.

Again, I appreciate your help

Best regards,

Gus

Yes, 5.3 should work fine with that drive Gus. I wouldn't bother installing Direct CD because it has pitfalls, but Creator is a good solid workhorse for what you're doing.
