I installed Vista Ulimate 32bit in my Gateway AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.2GHZ and I am dual booting with Windows Media Center 2005 which also has a tendency to be buggy. Roxio 10 works fine in Windows Media Center 2005 (WinXP pro) but when I boot into Vista, after installing Roxio 10, I don't see Audio capture anywhere? I know you can go indirectly by going to Music Disc Creator but it doesn't capture audio anymore. In fact, I can't even get it to capture any audio from my record player using line in. The LP and Tape Assist doesn't work ether using line in. I like having Audio Capture. I'm glad I don't have to depend on Vista. The more I use it the more I dislike it. Many of my favorite programs don't work. But I like to just keep up but so far it seems like an exercise in futility. Any suggestions? or do i just have to use Roxio 2009. I remember Roxio went through a transition period with WinXP in the beginning. Roxio 5 had a lot of problems. I rember I started using Nero. thanks

Sounds you are predisposed to give up...

Update to 10.1 – it is Vista compatible.

Vista has completely changed how Audio is handled and many people have some trouble with it.. Try the update first.

I was given a legal copy of Roxio 10 suite with a used computer I bought. It says that you need a retail version but I don't see anything on the DVD that says whether it is or isn't. In about Roxio 10, it says V10.0.044 build 100B44B, R03. I do remember he said he bought it to upgrade from roxio 9, so I think it is. I sometimes hate to do any updates. I did update it to 10.1 in Media Center 2005 (WinXP pro) and but it didn't work right after that. I had lots of problems with Roxio 10.1 update. I just rolled back and roxio 10 worked better. It does not say at the update site that it is for Vista. It does make me wonder from my previous update. Any advice is appreciated. thanks

I need to correct myself – EMC 10 is Vista compatible!

The 10.1 update is to fix a NTLDR problem that some PCs had (if you have it, you will know)…

You need to do the Clean Install – Here

But frankly if your already having other problem it may not clear it up. Dual boot systems using the same HD have to tendency to get mixed up.

I am not using the same drive. I have 2 sata drives. One for each system. I just installed Vista and then Roxio 10. It's probably only a week old. Would I still need to do a clean install? But if it is to fix a NTLDR problem, I must not have it. Because Roxio 10 works fine on both systems, except those issues I mentioned on Vista. Are there any issues like I mentioned in 2009 for Vista, particuarly Audio Capture not working? although, the line-in not working is not good either but generally I preferred to use the Audio capture than line-in. I haven't noticed any difference from using line-in to using Audio Capture in recording Albums or tapes. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't differences.

Easy Audio Capture in EMC 10 in Vista is a Vista Sidebar Gadget rather than a normal application.

Go into your Sidebar menu, you should find it in there.

Thanks for the tip. Although, I'm not sure I'm crazy about having those gadgets taking up space on my desktop. OS X has them and don't care for them either.

Others with influence with Sonic may have felt the same way. smile.gif

EAC was a gadget only in Easy Media Creator 10, so in EMC 11 [a.k.a. Creator 2009] it was made an application once more.

Although, it still doesn't work in Vista, at least on my machine. . I tried Audicity and it doesn't work either.

I decided to take a chance and see if 10.1 would help. It sure fixed it. It fixed it for good. Now nothing works. I can't even burn a CD. Nice update. It didn't work in Media Center 2005 (WinXP pro) either. I don't see much point to using Vista if most the programs I like don't work. I don't like the interface anyway. Too busy.

For some reason, even Roxio 2009 will not work. I still can't get it to record any audio through line-in in Vista. I even tried to update the Audio driver. It has a realtek'97 audio driver and had a Vista update driver. Sometimes, you just can't help yourself; you just keep trying even though I'm not sure why. I guess it just bugs me. I'm assuming it works for everyone else in Roxio 10 and 2009 in Vista. I hate to have to put another sound card in there.

Since there are no answers, I would like to ask if this is a general problem in Vista regarding Audio capture and line-in recording. It seems there are a lot of references on the internet regarding problems with line-in recording in Vista. It appears I am not alone with this problem. I have yet to see a solution.

The EAC gadget works fine in my Vista32, Ray. I haven't replied earlier because I can't replicate your problem so I can't help.

Considering the program life was from 9/07 to 9/08 you would expect a flood of posts about this, had it actually been a problem…

Since you have the same problem with 2009, it might be time to look elsewhere or format and start anew laugh.gif

The one thing that you have to do in Vista is make sure that Line-In (or any other device) is enabled.
You may have read this.

Go to Control Panel,Sound and get to the Record tab.You should see a list of devices. Is Line-in there? If so right click it and make sure it's enabled.
If it's not there right click anything else that is there and then click on Show Disabled devices.
Now you should see Line-in.Right click it and make sure that it's enabled.

If it's there now and enabled then you should be able to use it.
That said there have been many posts on Vista and Realtek sound chips.
Since MS changed the way that Vista processes sound you may find that your sound device just doesn't present some inputs to the OS.Or the OS doesn't recognize them.
