Don't know, I don't have version 8 installed anymore.

For what you want I would suggest the FREE application EAC,  Exact Audio Copy...   http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

You use whatever version of Lame you want...good stuff and free..

Are we talking about EAC? If so you pick the bitrate, set options for VBR, the program does the rest.

Here is a rip from EAC set to 192 VBR bitrate, it shows the different bitrates from the wav rip to MP3 conversion.

What advantages do you expect to see with a VBR mp3 file? Read the article closely.

VBR compression is "variable"  tongue.gif   based on the music you are trying to use.  If the music is complex throughout, or has the same but lss complex nature throughout, then the VBR won't have much of a range.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you are trying to accomplish.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Variable Bitrate Compression,  Benefits...

LAME's default VBR method tests the actual output quality to ensure the desired quality level is always achieved.

Well, duh !  That is not what I asked.  I knew that much   blink.gif

I asked the poster what the OP hoped to achieve by using mp3 VBR.  If space (file size) is the only thing then I'll accept that.  If overall quality, I may not accept that.   unsure.gif

If the op just wants compressed music to put on a mp3 player, and the player supports wma and or AAC, then I believe that the general consensus (per other forums) is that at the same bit rate, wma is superior to mp3.  It may also be true that wma at a much lower bit rate is better than a mp3 compressed file.  Of course a lot of players will accept AAC which is supposed to be better than both.

To tell you the truth, I have a ZEN that will take all three  (I haven't tried AAC) but I can't really tell the difference with mp3 VBR and wma.   I don't know if EMC 8 will make an AAC file.

By the way Batch Convert and Transfer in Creator 2009 works great.  (I know the thread is in EMC 8 but the Op may want to update.)

I just want to know why VBR is not VBR if Roxio uses LAME?

if you use LAME with EAC the VBR works.

Do I need to do something with the TAR file maybe?

Question 1. How do you know they aren't?

Download and install the free EncSpot 2.0 build 817,  here....

It is a MP3 Analyzer, under options settings, click the columns tab, click the + next to general , put a check mark in VBR box....

Now from the left window navigate to a Roxio encoded MP3 file, click it and it will load in the right window, look at the VBR column....

Question 2. Yes.

Question 3. Don't have a clue what your talking about.

If it has, they're not going to be fixed now. Both version 8 and version 9 are "out of support" now.

You could try, but there's one there already.  You'd probably have to reverse engineer it to substitute another version.
