When I use DVD express editor, and import a video file, picture is fine, but the audio is distorted (or over-modulated causing distortion).

When i go to 'clean audio', it only cleans about 10 seconds at a time.

If I import this same clip to another video editor, (like MovieMaker) it is fine.

Am I missing an audio filter maybe?   I've re-installed the program twice now, but still no luck.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Go into dxdiag and reduce the audio acceleration to the minimum.  If that helps, you can play with it if you need to.  Also update your audio drivers.

DON"T use DVD Express; use the full MyDVD !

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
