I have made a photo slideshow video, on Roxio 2009 Ultimate, and everything seems perfect. I review the slideshow and it’s exactly as I want it. I am using Windows XP.

When I try to burn the slideshow onto a disc everything appears to be working fine but after the burning process is completed I do not have a video on the disk. When I open the disc there are five folders on it labeled CDI, EXT, MPEGAV, SEGMENT and VCD. The slideshow is not in any of these folders.

I have wasted over 20 CD’s attempting to successfully burn this slideshow and have been unable to get any help from Roxio. This is not a memory problem because I am only using approximately 20% of the memory on the CD.

I would really appreciate if someone could steer me in the right direction.

Thank you

I assume you used "Videowave" to make your slide show, but not sure what program you used to burn your DVD ?? . After saving the Videowave production it to a folder of your choice (preferably in the same folder as your photos and videos) as a "dmsm" file. Open up MyDVD and import that file into the program and edit it as options permit there, and then preview it and if O.K. then burn it in myDVD. After you have edited it in MyDVD, don't forget to save it as a "dmsd" file also.

If this is the steps you took, then it should have produced a playable DVD. BTW, the files you should see on the burned DVD are---*.BUP; *.VOB; and *.IFO. (where the "*" is the name of the file and after the "." is the extension)

Sounds like you created a VCD based on the folder names you mentioned. Please provide detail of the steps and program names you used from start up to burning onto disc.

What format do you want to output your project to?

Those are the correct folders for a VCD slideshow and your slideshow is in there. Have you tried to play it? Not every DVD player is able to play VCDs.
I am not sure what you are expecting to see.

Thank you for the replies.

I am creating the slideshow using the Roxio Slideshow Assistant. When I complete the slide show I click on the burn button and it opens a window asking if I wish to burn the project. I click on “yes” and it starts the burning process. It shows me two bars that give the percentage completed. One bar is labeled “Overall Progress and the other “”Creating”. It also shows a window that is labeled “Encoding Preview” which shows the slideshow but you are not able to hear the background music.

When the burning process is completed the CD pops out. When I check the CD there is no video only the five folders that I mentioned.

I did make sure that the project is saved as a “dmsd file” but it makes no difference in the final results.

This is very frustrating because I became aware that these slideshows could be made when a friend of my son’s made one using photos of his dog. He used my computer and Roxio 2009 Ultimate software to produce it. Unfortunately he is no longer here and I do not know where to contact him for advice. When I insert the CD with his slideshow on it, into my computer, I get a WMV icon that I can click and watch his slideshow video on Windows Media Player. When I put in one of my CD’s in all I get are the five folders.

I just wasted two more CD’s trying to get the same end results that my son’s friend managed to get.

Please help.

I think the Slideshow is saved with dmss suffix.

Anyway, when using the Roxio Slideshow Assistant and after pressing a couple of Next button, you will come to a screen that has Edit in Videowave as an option. Press that button and it will bring you to Videowave program. Save it first (File| Save As). Then choose File|Output As. A dialog box comes up. One of the boxes let you select the format; I think you want WMV format so choose that. Then proceed creating that WMV file, noting the file name you give it. That is the file you burn onto a CD. You should be able to play it using Media Player.

I started the project over again but I never found the screen giving you an option to edit in Videowave.

I have been unable to save the project as a WMV file.

Any other suggestions?

I am not in front of PC with Creator 2009 now but I recall that option should be in the last screen (together with Save or Burn option) of the Slideshow Assistant. The Assistant has 3-steps, so that option is on the 3rd screen.

You have a retail version of Creator 2009, do you?

You do not hear the audio when the encoding process is running.

How do you know your son's friend made the same kind of project as you did? He may well have created DVD slideshow.
If you have a wmv icon that you click then there is not a "standard" slideshow on that CD but simply a wmv file which can only be played on a computer. You created something altogether different when you created the VCD.

Have you even tried to play the VCD you created using WMP? When you look at the friends CD do you see the same structure as on your CD?

I suggest you forget using "Slide Show Assistant" and use Roxio "Videowave" to make and edit any of your slide shows. Then import into "MyDVd" to burn your DVD. Unless you just have to have a VCD burn smile.gif

If he is using CDs as he says [and not DVDs] he will probably be limited to VCD or SVCD.
