I am using Roxio Backup in EMC 8.  At the start of backup, I get a question asking if I want to convert into shorter file names and I say yes, but then around 78%, it freezes for about 5 mins, and then says Not Responding.  I backup to a Maxtor External Hard Drive.  

I am backing up My Documents and my email profile location.  I have it set to backup at 4pm twice a week, which is when I'm working on the computer.  Should I set it to when I'm not working?  Is that part of the problem?

Don’t use it – Don’t know!

I would leave the file names as is!

I should work anytime but try a session when you are not using the PC.
