Did you get the file to download?

Did you follow the instructions?
"This updates any prior version of Easy VHS to DVD Capture (Mac) to version 1.0.1 and resolves problems that some users may experience capturing video.

Installation: Copy the “Easy VHS to DVD Capture” application included in the updater over any existing version.

Download - 20 MB"

How do you know that nothing happened?

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

1. Download the update from Roxios site.
2. The downloaded .zip file should automatically unzip creating a .dmg file. That file should automatically mount showing a window containing the Easy VHS to DVD Capture application. If this does not automatically appear you can double click on the downloaded file to unzip and/or mount the .dmg file.
3. Drag the Easy VHS to DVD Capture application to your Applications folder. In a couple seconds the copy is completed.
4. Launch the version now in your Applications folder.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

thx 4 response, i have repeatedly downloaded from the PINNED FOLDER IN THE FORUM HERE AT THE TOP, not main roxio site? is that why it's not working, the update is pinned at the top of the roxio forum. Ihave done what you have said, it won't update and stays as version 1.0, I tried what 4-5 times yesterday and 2 or more this am.

have a rest and try again, fed up with roxio version, and may get the elgato and send this back, I got it for the imovie, i disabled and hhousebound what a pain and waste of time, for others too. they sure didn't test the produce before release , I have roxio on pc prior, and am shocked they didnt' even test it.

thx again, i will try yet again later, it does have the toast not interested in, i want the imovie feature which is why i got it

Cheryl,

I think I know what the problem is. In your Applications folder you have a folder called Easy VHS to DVD and inside that folder is the version 1.0 of "Easy VHS to DVD Capture." When you dragged the one from the window that appeared after downloading to your Applications folder, it did not copy inside the Easy VHS to DVD folder. Instead, it is outside that folder but still in your applications folder. So you have two copies installed but are still launching the older one.

Drag the one that is inside the Easy VHS to DVD folder to the Trash. Now go to the top level of your Applications folder. There you should see the version 1.0.2 copy of Easy VHS to DVD Capture. You can launch it from there or move it into the Easy VHS to DVD folder if you prefer.

You do not need to download the update again. My guess is if you open your downloads folder you'll see all of your downloads of this update. They are called "Roxio_EV@D_Capture_Update_1.0.2.dmg and some will have an extra digit showing that it is duplicate copy. You can mount any of those by double clicking and you'll get the window where you can drag the version 1.0.2 application to your Applications folder. You don't need to keep these in your downloads folder after you know you have the update installed. When you are ready just drag them to the Trash.

Dragging to the Trash does not delete the file from your hard drive. You still need to empty the trash. That is done by clicking the "Finder" menu on the top menu bar of your screen (when you're looking at your desktop so Finder appears at the top left corner of the screen. When you click on the word Finder you'll see an option to Empty Trash. There is a keyboard shortcut shown, too.

I did it earlier I had to rest. gosh what an ordeal, lol. I was trying imovie finally for the first time as well with a recording  from vhs to test it out, I learning imovie, I learning everything on this thing my first mac & miss my pc alot.

I just read this now thank you very much for taking the time and having the patience to keep at this with me (and others here, I see you help alot in the forum). there were 2 copies eventually i trashed the 1st, and poofed it off the dock as I ended up having 2 on the dock and app folder.  still  learning the mac, long ways to go, and while trying to sort out these duplicate lists of applications, folders etc, and moving stuff around,  i just POOFED the original, while moved the update in finder - which is confusing, some of the same lists keep duplicating. I reinstalled from cd, it wouldn;t just from the update, thenopen the orignal, then opened the update and had it replace  the original 1.0 version of it this time, just finished..  :YIKES

also how do you get stuff out of the trash, windows it was easy to restore items, it keeps telling me I can;t (not roxio related), also when you POOF stuff how do you get it back, one day on phone with apple tech he didn't know it took ages for an app he had to ask... ok  forget that one

again thank you. the screen size is very small compared to the one I have for my pc, can't wait until it gets back from the shop.

ok again thanks. they said there is another update coming out 1.0.3, frames dropping, that was mentioned in a review I read earlier.

wow, what a waste of time. on the bright side hopefully don;t have to buy the elgato, which I think I should have. Still have abit to decide, also the extension doesnt  work (yes I emailed customer service and hope to hear by tomorrow);  as metnioned so it takes up 2 usb ports they only have 3 on this not 4 I don't know why, except the pinhole coolers are in the back.

Namaste
Cheryl

Cheryl,

I'm pleased you are having some success at last. To recover something placed in the Trash you need to click on the Trash can icon to open the Trash window. Then you can drag what's there back to your folders or the desktop.

The poof you are referring to is the Dock. The icons in the Dock are merely pointers (aliases) to the actual applications. You can add something to the Dock by dragging it from a Finder window to the Dock. You can delete something from the Dock by lifting it out of the Dock (if the application is not open). When it goes poof there is nothing deleted or put in the Trash. You just remove the icon that is linking to the application.

When an application opens it appears in the Dock even if it wasn't there before. You can have that icon remain in the Dock even after the application closes by clicking and holding on the Dock icon and choosing Keep in Dock in the menu that appears.

A good way to learn more about using your Mac is to choose Help when in the Finder. In the window that appears choose Exploring Mac OS X and you'll see a list of suggested topics. A good place to start is Basics. There also is help for people who are used to using Windows.
