Insert Blank Disk - Cannot Read Disk DVD-RW says disk is not writable

My Easy DVD copy software will not recognize writable a DVD in my Optiarc DVD RW AD-7910S drive. The software will occasionally recognize a writable disk, but not every time. I use the same disk, but some times it works and other times it doesn't. I haven't been able to detect a pattern to this problem to understand when or why it's unable to recognize the disk. Other DVD write software on my computer works reliably and has no trouble recognizing a blank DVD disk. Why does the Easy DVD Copy software have trouble?
