When trying to burn a DVD using the MyDVD application, the file either spontaeneously quits encoding (which is most of the time) or it gives an error after encoding claiming 'Destination drive doesn't have enough space - error while burning). The latter error is BS because when setting up the DVD menu & files to burn, I made sure that there was plenty of space on the disc by selecting standard play. Also the file size was considerably smaller than the space on the DVD. I'm beginning to think that this software package is very poor. It failed again following re-installation after removal. What next??

Set your burn "fit to disk" and your media size to the type of media you are using.

Have you tried this update? http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/emc10/software_updates.html

You need to learn how to use the software.

First, defrag your hard drive.  If you don't have 20GB of room, on your hard drive, you don't have enough room to do video work.

Second, a good rule of thumb is 1 hour of video, at high quality, on a standard DVD.

Third, in MyDVD, use the High Quality (HQ) setting.  All other settings will give you, what I consider "junk" quality, on the final product.

Fourth, after you click on the Burn button, uncheck the burn to DVD option, and click on the Folder Set option.  Give it a name, and location to save, then click burn.

Walk away from your computer, during the encoding/rendering process.  Don't mess with the computer, or you can ruin the encoding.

Fifth, once the encoding process is done, close MyDVD, open Video Copy and Convert, and burn your project to a disc.

Dear GrandpaBruce,

I recently burned a DVD with much less than 20GB of memory of the hard drive - no problems. Also, for some reason when I tried to defrag it, it said I should not defrag.

The video file I was trying to burn is less than 1 hr. I originally tried the HQ setting, the same thing happened - the computer simply 'locked up'.

I always stay away from the computer while encoding; this is when the errors happened the most. The one time I managed to get it to encode without locking up I just moved the cursor (I did not have any other programs running at the time). The one time I managed to get it to encode properly, it gave the 'insufficient space' error.

The other 2 steps I haven't tried; I will give them a shot.

Do what gpb suggests…

If you wait till MS decides you need to defrag, it will then tell you, you don’t have enough space on the drive to run defrag!

Boy do they love gotcha’s  laugh.gif

Yes 20GB is cutting it thin.

Before Defrag, you will also want to run Disc Cleanup.

Tried Grandpa Bruce's ideas - all I get is some 'unspecified error'! (0x80004005).

Update your video card drivers, and if it still doesn't work, in MyDVD, click on Tools/Options, and set the rendering to Software, and try again.

What video card do you have?

Finally got it working! Simply defragmented the drive and then it burned straight to disc, without output to folder. The entire thing now works as it used to. Thanks all for your input!
