The Clean Install instructions contains the following:

"Remove any Roxio and Sonic programs from Add or Remove Programs or use the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility if you receive a certificate file error while trying to remove the Roxio program. Follow the instructions below to use the Microsoft Cleanup Utility to remove Roxio and Sonic software"

In reading this instruction it appears that the two utilities are similar and will both be equal in their ability to make a clean uninstall of EMC 9. Is one utility preferable to the other? Is it always necessary when using either of these utilities to go to the Registry and remove the Roxio/Sonic files manually?

If, on my new computer, I have a problem with the installation of EMC 9 that System Restore will remove all of the files of the program including those in the Registry?

One more question.

If I save a copy of the Registry to my hard drive. Can anyone tell me what is the file path for reinstalling. It appears that it is in the System 32 folder. Is this correct? Can someone tell me what the file name will look like. There are several entries in the System 32 folder that appear to be Registry related. Which of them will be the correct one?

If you just double click the *.reg file that you exported, it should be reinstalled in the same place as it was before.

Not at all the same. They are two distinctly different processes.

Basically:

Add/Remove programs is designed to actually attempt to repair, modify, or in this case, uninstall the particular entry based on settings in the applications install script. Including removing Services, Registry entries, Registered files, associated files & folders, etc... [altho almost no apps actually remove everything when you uninstall it].

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility simply removes the installation references stored in the Windows Installer monitoring repository.
