EMC 7
I am trying to make copies of a DVD. The video files have the VOB extension. When I try to save the disc image, the only options I get are C2D and CUE. I don't know why it doesn't want to save in ISO, I can do it with other disks.

The Roxio disk utility gives the following info:

DVD type: DVD-R
Content type: ROM/Audio
Used Space: 3.9GB
File system type: UDF

Any ideas why it will not save in ISO?

The program doesn't recognize the VOB extension and thinks you are trying to make a data disc image.  Change the extension to mpg and see if it will work then.

What application are you using to make copies/ the disc image?  How are you trying to do it?  Why don't you use Windows for a straight copy?

I assume that the DVD is not copy protected.

If you're using Roxio Disc Copier in EMC 7, the program should recognize the disc as a DVD-Video [or DVD-Vdeo in the one I just did] - see the top left alongside "Contents"

If you set the destination for Disc Image [high right] and click "Save As" [top right] you should see the "Save As" box open.

The drop-down box should give you the ISO option, for Video-DVDs or Data DVDs, or even Drag-2-disc's "Big floppy discs",

HOWEVER if your disc is actually an audio disc or your system thinks it's audio, then you'll only be allowed to select C2D or Bin/Cue, because there's no ISO standard covering images of audio discs.

So what does your Source box show alongside "Contents:" please?

This is a DVD of a musical performance that was produced by a work for hire videographer. It is not copy protected. My desktop computer has a Plextor PX-760A DVD burner which I use regularly to copy DVD's for distribution.

In the EMC7 Disc Copier window, it says the contents of the Source Drive is DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER(DVD-Video).

Hello Ron,

I don't know what your Videographer may have done to the disc he produced for you, but if it is a standard DVD-Video disc you should have the option in Disc Copier 7 to save to an ISO image. However you say you haven't, so it seems he hasn't produced a stock-standard DVD-Video.

If that's the case you seem to be out of luck as far as producing an ISO goes. However to move on with your task you should still be able to save to Bin/Cue or C2D images, and to copy from there.

Oddly, when I tried to select C2D, the Disc Copier window abruptly closed. So there's something else going on besides the source disk.

I was able to achieve a work around. I had access to a laptop loaded with EMC 9. I saved the disk in ISO format using EMC 9 and then transferred it to the computer with the DVD burner. Then using the same offending EMC 7 program I was able to burn the ISO file to a disk.

I'm glad you found a work-around, but there's something wrong with your EMC 7 installation.

Perhaps it's time you cleaned it out and reinstalled it, to get it back in factory order.

I did a repair installation but that did not help so I guess all that's left is a full uninstall/reinstall.
