I'm trying to use the DVD drive on my MacBook Pro as a shared recorder. I turned on the preferences in sharing and I entered the network address of that laptop in Popcorn. I tried this using both Ethernet and Wireless networking.

When I try to copy a DVD, I get an error message that says, "Could not record the disc because the ToastAnywhere connection could not be established. Result Code = -42884"

I can't find any help topics on this issue. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't used ToastAnywhere but I believe you have to have Popcorn open on both computers. Check for a Sharing preference in Popcorn Preferences.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

I don't think that's the case. I believe all you need is to have DVD Sharing enabled on the other computer.

That may be the case when burning with Apple's tools but it is different with Roxio's apps. Here is a page that describes how to use a burner connected to another computer using Popcorn. Just substitute the word Popcorn where you see Toast 6.

This does not work. Toast is running on the other computer and my computer does not see the shared recorder. I get a -42884 error message.

It's been a long time since anyone has asked about this and I've forgotten what I may have learned about it. You could choose to Save as Disc Image and either save the disc image to the other Mac or send it there later. You also could change the disc image's .toast extension to .dmg and try burning using Disk Utility to the shared burner. All I can remember is addressed in that knowledgebase article: clear the port so it isn't blocked by a firewall and have Toast Anywhere turned on in the preferences for both copies of Toast/Popcorn.

Oh yes, I also think the Macs have to be connected via wired Ethernet and not wireless.
