I am trying to re-install BackupMyPc 2006 after a problem following a restore. The restore (full system) seemed to go fine, but when I tried to restore a second incremental backup, the program would not run. I checked the Program files folder - and the Roxio folder was gone! But when I tried to reinstall the program from CD, I am told that it already is installed - and I need to use the Control Panel remove programs...but that tells me it "exists", but there is a problem so it can't uninstall!
Thinking that it might be a broken link, I ran System Mechanic to find & fix such problems - it said it found and fixed several. But I still get the initial error from BackupMyPc saying I have to uninstall the program first!
Is there a fix for this, or do I now have another coaster?
BTW, I am running under Win2K.
Thanks.
BackupMyPc won't install after restore

Use your registry tool in System Mechanic to remove all of the remaining Roxio entries. If successfull, the the Control Panel should not show Roxio entries. Scan your HD for Roxio BackupMYPC folders and delete those. Then try to reinstall the product.

OK, thanks - I thought I had done all that, but maybe not, I'll give it another go.
One other question - will this software run under Vista? I was looking at some new PC's today, and none will run my IDE drive that I restored to, so am hoping that I can use the backups I have to transfer the entire file system. The backups are stored on a USB disk which should run under Vista.

Your product is not listed as being compatible with VISTA but that doesn't mean it will not function. It would be a crap shoot and if you are depending on safe backup/restore operations then you might want to think about a VISTA compatible product.

OK, thought that would be the case - I'll look into one of those on that page.
Are there other (non-Roxio) products that will read the backup *.qic formatted files?
I did finally get the program to install - but now when I try to run it, I get a message that uiserve.dll can't be found! A search of the HD shows that it is not on the HD - I did find several sites that offer a free download, but I'm leery of just taking one and installing it...too easy to install more trouble that way.
Any recommendations on a safe dll download site?
Again, thanks!
