Hi all,

I just purchased the Roxio USB Capture Device. I have EMC 10, I'm using Win XP SP2, Pent 4, 2.1gz, Radeon Pro Graphics card(not sure of memory, but a good card in 2003) , 512 Ram.

I read the post on installing in the HOW to Forum, The device seems to work fine. before I capture video looks good (Minor fuzzyness, but could be the old VCR) but when I hit the capture button, the Audio and Video is Jerky.

I rebooted, Same Problem. I Recently Defraged w/in a week or so.

I will Defrag again tonight, but is there any thing else I could try??

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

DD

Read this article and see if it applies:

If you are working with video then you should add more memory. 512 mb is too little for most video work. Also, update Directx is you haven't already done so.

Your PC is considered low end by today's standards. You might want to consider a new PC.

Thanks,
I'll check this out.
I just upgraded direct X when I updated the video card drivers a couple days ago. I had a feeling the 512 Ram might be a problem.
I was hoping to get by with this PC for awhile, It does great with EMC10. I'll then pass this PC to the Kids and get me a new one.

OK, I got some video, quality is Pretty good still a little fuzzy, minor skipping. These are the adjustments:

Render to Hardware
Lowered hardware acceleration - 1click
Gave Video wave High Priority ? should I have done this for video capture?
changed from DV to DVD-SP.

Will still defrag tonight, and try to buy some more ram latter.

Are you capturing direct to DVD? If yes then I would first capture to your hard drive and then burn to DVD so that the process is done in 2 separate operations. Before burning to DVD you can also check the quality of the video you captured. If your card is that old, the software setting may also be a better option. If you were to give anything a high priority it should have been the video capture. Actually when you are capturing I would recommend you shut down all running applications, disconnect from the internet and even disable anti-virus checking. The less interuptions that occur during the capture process (as well as during the burn process), the better your video quality should be (should get less skipping or dropped frames)

And for your information RAM has nothing to do with Capture or Render/Burn…

RAM is noticeable only in moving around in the editor (VideoWave) but Capture/Burn only use about 300MB.

Just before you get ready to start your Roxio application, start up Windows Task Manager by depressing the following keys together: Cntl, Alt, Delete. You could also start Task Manager by going to the Run window via the Start Button or under Accessories and typing in Taskmgr. Click on the Performance Tab and look at the numbers at the bottom of the window. CPU Usage is? Physical Memory (used) is? Leave Task Manager running. Now start your Roxio application. Minimize the DVD window and look at Task Manager again. What are the values now? If your Performance window has a Resource Button near the bottom you could click it and then observe Memory Hard Faults. If Memory Hard Faults is too high or CPU is too high then you have hardware constraints that will cause performance impairments.

I am Capturing to MY HD, Edit in VW, then Finish in My DVD.

Thanks for the Info.
