On my new computer I installed EMC 9 and after a few shakedown problems it seemed to be working OK. I made two test movies complete with all the extras and burned a disc for one of them.

Yesterday I wanted to take a look at some of the other features in the EMC 9 program. I clicked on Create Slideshow. The program opened and I added pictures and music. One of the choices given was to Edit in Video Wave which I chose. Video Wave opened and it had a warning box saying I needed to activate MPEG2 Codec. I selected Auto activation and I was given a message of Invalid Code. I then read the John at Roxio instructions for Manual Activation in the Activation Forum. I printed them out and followed each step to the letter. Manual Activation failed and I got an ERR message. I rebooted my computer and tried again. Still no Manual Activation. I ran a System Restore back to where the program was working but System Restore had no effect on the program. When I tried to cancel the warning box it simply shut the program down.

I then went back and read some of the posts in the Activation forum. One of the posts mentioned turning off Virus Scan and Firewall. By now seeing visions of a reinstall. I shut down both Virus Scan and Firewall and then tried Manual Activation again and I finally got the 25 digit orange activation code numbers. I copied them down and entered them into the respective boxed on the Offline Product Activation Box. This completed the activation and the program seems to be working again. I am not sure whether shutting down Virus Scan and Firewall was what made the Manual Activation work. Perhaps if they were shut down that Auto Activation would have worked.

I had this program on my old computer and it ran without a problem for 3 years. Sometimes, as much as I like this program it sure does try one's soul.

Anytime that you are doing anything like install, activation, etc., your virus crap should be turned off. And, you are the first person, in over 2 years, to post here saying that you got the orange numbers. High fives to you!

Oh, and what you did to create your slide show, was to use the junk Asstistant. NEVER use that piece of crap program. ALWAYS use VideoWave.

Life is good!
