I've been poking around the HELP files, doing a lot of experimentation (without much success), and browsing the forum but I'm still having problems.  The most useful post I've found is:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...amp;#entry22469

If there are better ones, please let me know.

WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO:

In MyDVD 9, accomplish the following:
- Have an Intro video that plays start to end, then repeats, either in a window or full frame (at this point I don't care)
- Has a Play button that starts playing the single movie
- Has a Chapters button that takes user to a screen with buttons for the 9 sections of the movie
- Each Section menu has from 3 to 11 Chapters

Both the Intro video and the main video (the movie, for lack of a better term) are VideoWave 9 (VW9) projects.

The main video (movie) has the "chapter" points defined (clicking on Edit Chapters shows all 96 chapters).

In the Project View, Movies tab, I see a film clip icon with a "1" inside it and to its right the name of the intro VW9 project.  On the line below I see a film clip icon with a dark center to its right the name of the main movie VW9 project.

In the Project View, Menus tab, I see an icon that looks like a target (or female coaxial connector) with the name of the project to its right.
Below it as an indented sub-item is a film clip icon with a "1" inside it and to its right "Intro Movie:" followed by the name of the intro VW9 project.
Below that is (unindented) what appears to be a menu icon with the word "Play" to its right.
Below that and indented is an icon with a dark gray square in a white square with the name of the main movie VW9 project.

MY QUESTIONS:

1) I set an "Intro Movie", using the Intro VW9 project I'd created.  I can't figure out how to get it to show in the little video window on the main menu or full screen.  Yes, there is a little video window in the current menu style.  Instead I see the first frame of the Main movie.  I haven't figured out how to change this.

2) I tried creating 9 separate submenus from the main menu.  That didn't work.  The template has room for 6 and apparently my attempts at adding three additional buttons were not what MyDVD9 expected as very strange things happened and then it locked up.  My thought was to create 9 submenus (one for each major section of the "movie") and then under each of those I'd create submenus for the various chapters.  That didn't work, and among other things, I couldn't figure out how to assign a specific chapter to a specific submenu button.

Obviously, I'm going about this the wrong way, and to quote one of my artistic friends "your problem is that you are approaching it like a programmer or engineer", but then they can't figure out what to do either.

Thanks in advance for your help!

John

The post you found and linked to is how you accomplish #2 & #3

For #4, it's not clear what this means. No idea what you mean by a "Section menu"

To #1
First it will help if you understand what an Intro Movie is. It is an 'intro' video that plays when a disc is first loaded on a player before the main menu is loaded. It plays once only, and the only way to play it again is to eject and reload the disc.

While you may want to use an intro for the disc, that doesn't sound like what you want to do. Are you wanting the background on the menu to loop? Are you trying to get the "intro" project you made to show in the little movie preview window for the menu style you chose?

Hi Larry, Thanks so much for responding!

You are correct that I didn't understand the purpose of the intro video.

Yes, I'd like to have a video clip play, either in a window or full-screen, while the main menu is displayed.  I'd also like to be able to have the audio from that clip play in sync with the clip, if possible.  As in "Welcome!  Today we have nine topics to cover, ..." which is in sync with the speaker and repeats with the video clip.

I'm currently not getting ANY chapter menu of any kind.  Perhaps I'm not setting up the submenu(s) correctly.  I've now gone back to basics and removed ALL submenus so I can start over.  I'm wiping everything I thought I knew about MyDVD 9's submenus and starting all over from scratch.

If I understand the process, I need to click on the the one remaining menu icon in the Project View, then click on "Add Submenu" in the "Edit" pane.  Is that correct?  From what I've read, if I do nothing then a series of additional submenus will be created to display all the chapter points (which I do see in "Edit Chapters", and I do have the "Update chapter menu(s)" check box checked).  Is that correct?

Thanks!

John

Hi Larry,

I've found a partial work-around for the, shall I say "welcome" video.  I added it to the project as a movie, got it to be the clip that plays in the little video window on the main page, then I extracted the audio from it and added it in as the menu audio, and discovered that I have some control over how long the audio plays, but I can't seem to control how long the "welcome" video plays in its little window.

It looks like after 10 seconds it automatically repeats, and I need 29 seconds.  Playing with the animation play length seems to adjust how long the audio file plays, but it doesn't seem to have any impact on how long the video plays.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

John
