Well, 5 calls with over 2 hours on hold and still no progress.  We have managed to break several other things, like making my PC shutdown and restart every time you open creator and select a sub-program (subsequently fixed), but are no closer to resolving this issue.  I'm going to try using the online support ticket method today, I can't afford to waste another day mostly on hold, before I throw in the towel and submit for a refund.

If anyone else is having this issue, here is a recap of what I've tried so far at support's request:

1) reinstall video driver (they had me actually downgrade my ATI Rdeon x4670 driver from the current catalyst version I had from ATI to the version on Dell's site)
2) clean install process for Vista
3) un-install .Net framework version 3.5 SP1
4) install .Net framework version 3.5
5) clean install process for Vista
6) install creator 2009 SP4

The downgrade of .net to remove SP1 is what caused my PC to shutdown and restart each time I launched creator and selected a task inside of it.  The reboot would occur just after the sub program launched and I clicked something inside of it. ( In my case Video Copy & Convert)

Installing SP4 fixed the restart issue, but the VC&C app still crashes when I select a movie to add to the compilation.  This essentially gets me back to square one but with a downgraded video driver and .net framework.

I'll let you know if we get anywhere or if I give up and request a refund.  If I wasn't forced to use this software to burn TIVO files to DVD I'd have quit messing with it long before this.

On that note, does anyone know if the Toast product is more stable?  I could just burn those on my macbook pro I guess...

I too have the same problem, has to be Vista related, XP works fine with CD Creator 9, have not tested 2009.

My Mac with Toast 10 works great, try the macbook.  I only have a 2.66ghz imac with 4g ram so it take a while to convert movie to iphone/touch size/format. I guess Elgato makes a USB hardware accelarator for converting (Turbo.264), device is $150 and I cannot find any performance benchmarks. I have alot more processing power on my Wintel box so I would like to use that for converting my videos. If you hear anything from roxio please post I am interested to find out what the fix is.  Good luck

Yet another post, hijacking a thread that it has nothing in common with!

The thread that you hijacked, talked about the problems with Creator 2009.  You haven't tried it with 2009.  blink.gif  blink.gif  blink.gif

I was not completely clear in my response, at the time I had not tested Creator 2009 with XP, I know for a fact that like the other user I cannot convert video with either version of Creator, even after patching them, running Vista. Other features of the software work great. I have since test the convert function on XP with Creator 2009 and it does work.

I guess I wait for Windows 7 I hear that people are not experiencing the issue, I am no fan of Vista but it is running on my fastest machine with the most available resources.

Besides Toast on a Mac, Pinncale Studio 12 will convert video without issue running on Vista.

Oh that made it really clear  laugh.gif

Look at it this way… Millions of users don’t have any problem! The program is nearly a full year old now, we have passed the discovery phase a long time ago…

There are some users that will not get it installed due to problems on their PC. They are unwilling to even consider that the problem is their PC or the files they are attempting to feed it.

Win7 will bring no magic to the table... Has MS ever helped anything?

Big Dave,

I am using the copy and convert function of Creator 2009, when I try to add video either from DVD or Video_ts file from the same DVD the program states it has encountered an error and will close. Just a copy of home movie off an old Hi8 tape.

Thanks,

Eddy

Eddyx,

Yes, I encounter the same error under VISTA and also under W7 although W7 is not supported. I only encounter this problem when the video file is in .vob format. If I rename the same file to .mpg format then Video Copy and Convert works.

What format is your video file?
