I am new to Roxio and this forum.  I submitted two questions to Roxio Technical Support and was given links to the Getting Started Guide and User Guide.  I already have searched Creator Classic help and now have searched the recommended guides, but still no answers to my questions.  I hope someone in this forum can help.

I am trying to find a way to burn a multi disc set without having Roxio Retrieve included.  I have told Roxio not to split files and no file I am burning exceeds the media size (4.7 GB).  So Roxio Retrieve is not needed, however it is still included.  I just want a pure data disc I can send to someone without any extra programs.
Any idea if this can be accomplished?

I also am trying to find a way in Creator Classic to update a project that I have saved to include new files.  If any files have been deleted Roxio asks to have them removed from the project.  However if any new files are in the folders they seem to be ignored.  Any way to refresh a project to add new files in the folders?

Thanks

You can’t have a multi-disc project without having Retrieve, that’s just the way it works!

IF no files are split, then you don’t have to use Retrieve to access the files. However, the discs must be Read Only and there is no option to override that with any multi-disc project.

Bluntly, no way to do what you want, the way you want to…

A backup program, like BackOnTrack will come close, allowing you to append but the cost is you need to use a dedicated program (BOT) to manipulate the files.

I quite trying to use optical media for massive backups a long time ago, 2 discs OK, 3 or more – impractical. I use external HDD’s and have never looked back. For the truly irreplaceable files, then I use optical media as a backup to the backup.

Thanks Jim, I really appreciate the information.  Since I had performed a lot of research I thought that Roxio Retrieve was just going to be there.  Glad you could confirm it!

I have a small external hard drive (320 GB) that I backup important files to on a daily basis.  I just like to have a non-magnetic media with the files I can not replace.  These include digital pictures, financial spreadsheets, application databases, etc..  There is just something comforting about holding the media in one's hands.  I know optical media will be around for a long time.

Again I appreciate you taking the time for the quick response.

Edited to clean up my reply.

Not as cunning as I hoped for  sad.gif  Nothing that was completely satisfying…

I was playing with the Home App – Burn Data Disc but it isn’t much different.

In the end, you cannot make an appendable discs and have multi-disc projects!

Your Project File is locked in time. I will only know the files/folders that were included when it was first made or last saved... What you can do is restructure your data so that it lives only in known directory locations. Select the directories (folders) and all is included.

If Retrieve.exe is included, so what? Don’t run it and just select what you want to restore with Windows Explorer.

I haven’t really rung out Burn Data Disc at this time but it appears it creates multi-disc projects without any Retrieve.exe included since it cannot split files… Of course it has some quirks too.

It will not add an empty folder…
It is cumbersome to use its’ “Add” command – use Explorer to drag instead…
It has the same limitations with its’ Project File’…
Might be appendable...  glare.gif I'm running more tests - No it is NOT!

Jim,

I really appreciate the research.  The data on my hard drive is very well organized so I should be able to just pick the 1-2 directories that I want to burn and just do it!

I was just looking for a quick way to pull up a project and go.

I like Roxio because it keeps the same exact directory structure as the source.  I tried a competing product and it rearranged the files to maximize the use of the disc.  There was no option to preserve the original directory/file structure.  For photographs that is very important to me if I should ever need to use the optical as a source.  Otherwise there is a search aspect to the process of getting to the correct digital pic.

As for Retrieve, you are right.  Why bother, I can just ignore it.  Just trying to avoid the question of "What is this?" if I pass a disc to a friend.

Thanks again for your research and your valuable information.

Your welcome - I needed the refresher  laugh.gif

The problem is that there is no one Solution that fits everyone…

The funny thing is, it looks so easy until you start writing the code! sad.gif
