QUOTE (sBickers @ May 12 2009, 06:30 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am at my whits end trying to burn AVCHD discs using Roxio Creator 2009.  It is a problem many other people seem to be having.  When I try to burn the AVCHD discs (which takes several hours), I get the message at the very end saying "Project_BuildToDevice() AuthorScript call failed. Error while  Writing Format".

I'm using TDK -RW 4.7GB discs, on a computer with a core 2 quad.  I did manage earlier to burn an ordinary DVD, but I purchased Roxio specifically so I could have HD quality DVD's that would run on normal DVD players.

I've tried reinstalling Roxio and have installed the latest updates, but that does not solve the problem.  Having spent hours editing video using Roxio, I am now thinking that the only solution is to try different software.

Please can anyone help me!  huh.gif

Take time to read some of the other threads in this forum.  People have made suggestions.  You can read faster than I type so I'm not going to repeat them here.

Please post the source of the video - what camcorder , format and resolution so the person watching this forum can add that to the database.

Roxio is aware of the problem but has not yet developed and issued a fix.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I'm using a Panasonic HDC-SD9 camera, recording in HD:HA mode (1920x1080), the camera records in Variable Bit Rate (VBR)

How are you capturing and in what FORMAT?

I am sorry, but I don't fully understand what you're asking.

capture = how are you getting the video from the camcorder to your computer.
Format = AVI, mpg2, AVCHD, MOV, etc.

Ah, a memory card type camera so you are just copying the video from the memory card to your computer and the format is AVCHD.  HD: HA = 17 Mbps/VBR.

Now we have that out of the way, let's go back to the original issue.  Did you look at the suggestions?

Just to be sure, do you have a Blu-ray player to play AVCHD discs?

In MyDVD, select to use a menu even if you only have one video on the AVCHD disc.  Select High Quality and not fit to disc.  Make sure you are burning (encoding) to an Image (ISO) file and naming and putting that image in a empty folder.  Once the iso is completed, just copy the ISO file to a GOOD disc.   TDK is OK but Verbatim is better.

Before you start, make sure that you have a lot of disc space and that you have recently defragged the hard drive.  Once it has started encoding, walk away and come back in about 12 hours for a 40 minute AVCHD disc.  40 minutes is about all you can expect to put on a disc at best quality.

Can you give us your computer specs?  Especially your video card/chip information.  That is almost as important than the CPU specs.

One last thing -- you cannot put HD video on a standard DVD (except for AVCHD).  The result will always be mpg2 at 480.  HD is 720 or 1080 and will always be on a AVCHD or Blu-ray disc.  You will need a Blu-ray player that can play a AVCHD disc.
That is the industry standard and not an issue with Roxio.

I have read the different threads on this forum about burning AVCHD videos, and tried to follow the advice given, but am still having endless problems.  Since I purchased Roxio Creator 2009, I've not been able to burn a single AVCHD video, which is so frustrating.

When trying to burn a AVCHD DVD direct to a TDK DVD -r (16 x speed) & TDK -RW (4x speed), I would get the message "Project-BuildToDevice()AuthorScript call failed. Error While Writing Format".  After reading advice on this forum, I decided to first create an ISO to my hard drive, and copy that to DVD.  Although it appears to work - when I try playing the DVD in my player or on the computer, the disc is not recognised.

If anyone can help me I would be extremely grateful!

I'm operating a Dell XPS 420 computer, with a Core 2 Dual Quard processor.  I'm trying to burn DVD's using plds bd re dh 4b1s burner.  I've updated all the driver software as adviced, but I'm still having the same problems.

Disc not recognized???

You realize the disc will only play in Blu-ray Player or a Player capable of playing an AVCHD disc???

Cineplayer can play such a disc in your PC but unless the Player or Program specifically lists AVCHD, it won’t work.

Good point!

The problem I'm having, is that I'm now not able to burn anything at all - either AVCHD or normal DVD.  Even when I try to save an ISO image to the hard drive, even that is failing, and I have no idea why this is.  It's really upsetting, because I specifically brought the camcorder to film my kids, and I can't burn any videos - I don't know if the issue is Roxio, or my computer or DVD burner!

Well the software came out 9 months ago, so if it had a big problem we might have noticed it by now…

Give us your PC specs, like in my signature, so we know what we are dealing with. well duh, you alrady did  laugh.gif

Got a disc of RW to play with?

Can you burn anything in Vista directly?

Creator Classic?

(trying to eliminate the burner as a problem)

I have followed you advice, and have burned three video clips onto a TDK DVD -RW disc, which I can play using my plds bd-re dh-4b1s player, so the issue doesn't appear to be the burner.  Any other suggestions of things I could try?

In your original post you said you created an iso file and copied that to a DVD. What program did you use to copy the iso file to the DVD?

I’m lost…

There are really only 2 issues here:

1. To burn an ISO without the AuthorScript error

2. To burn that ISO to disc

Where are we at on these???

The situation I have is this, I have been trying to burn an AVCHD ISO image to my hard drive.  Every time I try it, it fails.  Sometimes I get the message 'Videowave 11 has stopped working' or 'Project_build To Device (0) Author Script Call Failed'.  I've tried to do this numerous times, but it keeps failing.  I'm going to try to do a clean install (although I've done this before), and see if that changes anything.

I asked 2 specific questions but instead of 2 simple answers, I had to wade through your long “answer” and only find One of my questions answered…

Perhaps it would be better if you called Roxio and talked to them directly.

I am having major problems with Roxio Creator 2009.

Every time I try to burn an AVCHD ISO image to my hard drive, or create a folder, I get the message 'Videowave 11 stopped working' or sometimes 'Project_build To Device (0) Author Script Call Failed'.  I have tried clean installing Creator 2009 several times, but still get the same problem.  I have downloaded the latest updates, and have ensured that my computer drivers etc. are all up to date.

I am running Creator 2009 on a Dell XPS 420 Core 2 Quad computer - technical details are below:

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.090302-1506)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Dell XPS420
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A06
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU    Q6600  @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 3326MB RAM
Page File: 2461MB used, 4381MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 10
DX Setup Parameters: None
DxDiag Version: 6.00.6001.18000 32bit Unicode

I have spent hours trauling the forums to try and find a solution to this problem, but with no success.  Your help is rectifying this matter would be much appreciated.

You already said that !  angry.gif

Please answer these three questions:
1) Are you burning encoding the file to an ISO file where the target folder is on your hard drive and that target folder is empty to begin with?
2) Do you see the ISO file in that target folder on your hard drive?
3) Are you using Video Copy and Convert (or Creator Classic) to copy the ISO file to a blank DVD?

If you can't answer yes to all of those questions, then you have not followed the original suggestions. Where (at which step) are you having the problem?  Where can you not answer yes?    If you cannot or do not follow the suggestions, then perhaps you will need more help than we can provide.  Perhaps someone looking over your shoulder while you try the suggestions.

Also, you have failed to provide information on where you intend to play the DVD.  Will you want to play the DVD only on your computer?  If not, what Blu-ray player do you have and does the instruction manual say it will play AVCHD discs?

Have you tried making a standard definition disc with that file?  Perhaps there is something different with that file that will not allow you to burn it to a disc.  If you were able to burn the standard definition disc, does it play with your DVD player.

Oh, as a passing thought, do you have the project set to the European standard PAL and not the US NTSC?

In answer to your questions:

1) Yes
2) No - because burning the AVCHD ISO image to the hard drive keeps failing
3) Yes - it works with standard definition DVD's, but since I can't burn an AVCHD ISO image to the hard drive, I've not been able to try burning an AVCHD ISO image from the hard drive to DVD.

I have been able to burn a standard definition ISO image to the hard drive & using Video Copy and Convert, burned it to a standard definition 4.7 -R DVD, which plays both on the computer & my DVD player.

The issue is with creating a AVCHD ISO image (sorry if some of my earlier posts have sounded very confused about this).  The projects are set to PAL.

I have been reflecting on this problem today, and wonder if part of the problem is the length of time it takes to burn an AVCHD ISO Image to the hard drive (3-4 hours plus for a 35 minute video compared).  It did occur to me today to see whether the computer is going into sleep mode, and whether this could be the cause of the problem.  I am going to try and disable the Sleep mode to see whether that changes anything, and also burn a shorter AVCHD ISO image.  I'll let you know what happens.

I do appreciate the help you're trying to give, and your patience.

If you computer goes to sleep mode while doing the rendering it will of course fail. I think that 3-4 hours for a 35 minute segment is quite good.

Try to do a short (even 1 minute) segment to see if it works. That should tell you that at least the mechanics are working correctly.

I always keep Hibernate OFF and even disable screen saver when I do video work.  I haven't seen a Windows machine yet that came out of Hibernate without issues.

Yep, 4 hrs for 45 min of Hidef is really good.

Unfortunately turning off the sleep mode made no difference - I got the 'Videowave 11 has stopped working' message both times.  What I didn't change was the 'Turn off the display' setting, to see if that should affect it.  I'll let you know if I make any progress!
