PAL / NTSC

When I hit record (burn disc) I got a message saying my TV setting is set to PAL but everything was recorded (Canon HG20) in NTSC format. It asked if I wanted to reencode as PAL or just write it as NTSC, I chose to just write as NTSC. It said if I reencode it will take more time but if I don't it may not play in all DVD players??
I am very confused. Any help here? Should I change a setting on my camcorder? Do I just leave everything and burning a disc in NTSC format is just fine or should I be using PAL??
Also, eventually I want to burn Blu Ray movies after I download the plug-in, will this same question come up again and what do I choose?
Thanks for helping out a newbie!

I have no idea what system is used where I live? I live in the US if that helps? New Jersey.
I created a DVD encoding in NTSC and it worked in both my standard DVD player and my PS3 so should I just keep encoding in NTSC?
THanks for your help!

Yes, stay with NTSC. Open Toast Preferences. Click the Audio & Video tab. Change the TV standard preset to NTSC. Toast won't ask you again if you want your NTSC source video to remain as NTSC.

Thank you so much! You've been extremely helpful!
I just downloaded the HD plugin so I can start burning BluRay on standard DVD-R discs. Can you tell me what custom settings I should be using. I'm assuming to keep the mpeg4 quality, but what about all the other settings I can use, any recommendations?

Sorry, I don't have Blu-Ray so I haven't experimented with it. Click here for a tutorial that may be helpful.

The Automatic setting with high quallity is a good way to go. If you want to use the custom encoder settings then it matters how long is the video. If it is less than an hour you can set the average bit rate at more than 6 mbps and put the maximum up to 8 or 8.5. Turn on Half-pel if you're not in a hurry and the video has a some action shots. I like to use 224 or 256 for audio instead of the default 192.

The PAL video has a frame rate of 25 fps. You can see that in the description that Toast places with each video you add to the Video window. I'd convert it because it may freeze the DVD player.
I'm not sure about the -208 error message.
