I've just created two lovely coasters with EMC10 MyDVD, even though the project tested perfectly before burning. I burned an almost identical project successfully a couple of months ago using almost all of the same files and the same layout, menus etc. All I did this time was delete four files and replace them with new ones, and I added four more at the end. These are all .avi files on the hard drive of the Windows XP computer I'm using to burn them; the DVD burner has worked just fine in the past, as well. These are not copy protected files.
I closed MyDVD, rebooted and tried a second burn with the same result. What I'm getting is a DVD that won't play in any device. The disc has only two items: a video_ts folder that has all of the .vob and associated files in it, and a file labeled roxioplasma. No menu and no way of playing the videos.
I haven't burned many disks with this software, mainly because every time I do there's some problem or another. This is just the latest. If anyone can help, I'd be grateful. I'm trying to create a playable DVD as a backup for a presentation should anything happen to my hard drive files, and of course, I'm leaving tomorrow. Thanks in advance

Try burning to a Folder Set first, not directly to a DVD. Then burn the Folder set files, to a DVD, using Video Copy and Convert.

And use RW media for testing and no more coasters

Yes, I should have thought of that. It's what I had to do to troubleshoot the program the last time.I'll try the "burn to a folder" suggestion but I have to wonder why the software can't just work as designed. Isn't MyDVD supposed to burn DVDs with menus the way you set them up? Can't figure out why it seems to take multiple steps to make this work. Any additional suggestions on how to make this simpler would be much appreciated.

Video editing isn't simple. You can burn, directly to a DVD, from MyDVD, but most folks find it better to burn to an image file, or folder set first, then to a DVD.
It does have the advantage that, if you want to burn more than one DVD, then you don't go through the encoding process again.
