Hi,

I have tried to use Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate to create a MP3 cd from an amalgamation of songs from one artist from three of her cd's. A personal "best of" for the songs I want from the 3 cd's transferred to my one cd.

While I have been able to burn the "best of" cd with no problem, Creator 2009 Ulitmate will not allow me to burn the songs on the cd in the order I wish to. Even when I use the up and down arrows to move different songs up and down on the list, when I do the burn and get the cd, it has moved the songs back to the order it likes: starting with track one, then two and so forth using its own preferred lineup process.

I have tried twice now and it has happened both times.

I have burned cd's before using other programs and when I had done so and moved songs about before the burn, those programs would burn them in the order I made them. Roxio won't let me do this even though it allows me to move the songs around pre burn. The reason I  want to be able to do this is that I want to mix the songs up from the three cd's. I don't want all the songs to play from the artists one cd, then move to the next batch of songs from the second then the last.

Has anyone else had this problem of creating the lineup of songs for the burn that you want to use, and not the lineup that Roxio wants to put them in? Is there any solution?

Thank you for any help anyone can give me on this. It is much appreciated.

You can specify track order in a CD-Audio disc, but not a data disc.

Since you're making an MP3 CD, that's essentially a DATA disc with MP3s stored on it and Windows sorts the MP3 files the way it wants to, alphanumerically, when giving them to the Roxio burner.

Try renaming your MP3s by putting two digits at the start of the name, eg: 01first.mp3, 02second.mp3, and so on. That may order things how you want them.

Another method would be to have a playlist on the CD with the files listed in the order you want them played, however different players want the playlist in different forms, and many players just ignore a playlist.

You can do an automatic rename of mp3 files to keep the correct order if you use "Create Music Disc Projects rather than "Burn mp3"

Brendon,

Thanks for the answers you gave and your time in trying to help me out.

Yes, I may have to do as you suggest and rename all the songs....ugh!! You would think there would be an easier and quicker way to do this, but so far no good. It is starting to look like this is what I will have to do. I am confused by your suggestion about having a playlist on the cd that you say may solve my issue. How do I go about doing that?

sknis,

Thank you as well for your time and effort on my behalf.

I did as you suggested and followed what your screenshot showed. I now have them saved as a music disc project with the songs in the order I want...but I can't burn it to a cd. When I open Roxio Creator 9 and go to burn MP3 it won't let me import my disk project. If I go through Roxio Record now 10 where I made the disc project, bring the project up and hit burn, it does not burn it but says "building cd" and starts to do the project all over again. Is there a way to burn my project onto a cd now?

Once again, thanks to both of you for giving your time with this. I do appreciated it very much.

Which program are you really using? You are posting in Roxio Creator 2009 and talking about Creator 9 and Roxio Record Now 10.
Creator 2009 and Creator 9 (propably EMC 9) are two complete different programs 2 years apart. Most projects from one version will not work in the other. Roxio record Now 10 is another ball game altogether.

myguggi,

I used record now 10 to get to the screenshot that sknis put up here for me. I don't see how to get that exact box sknis showed me using Roxio creator 2009. I only found it using record now 10.  Am I missing how to do that with creator 2009? If I am, can you please tell me how to do so?

Launch Roxio Creator 2009
Select Music-Audio from the Menu page.
Select Create Music Disc Project
select Project Settings

If you can't do these steps then you don't have Creator 2009

Myguggi,

Man, that was exactly what the doctor ordered! I just followed your directions on opening that in creator 2009 instead of record now, then followed sknis screenshot and that did the trick. Program saved and burned in exactly the order I wanted.

I want to thank everyone who came to this thread to help me out. My frusratation level had reached its apex and it seemed like I would never get to burn these mp3 cd's exactly how I wanted. Now thanks to you guys I am happy as lobster that falls through a break in a fishermans nets and is plunging back towards the deep blue sea!!

You guys really were nice in putting up with my ignorance and giving me the answers I needed. I honestly can't say how much I owe to all of you and the really nice responses and time you gave me. You guys are the best. I hope others on here lookin for their own particular answers to problems are lucky enough to get a crew like you to respond.

Bendon,

As to your question. I was using record now 10 after I saw that screenshot sknis put up because I had seen it before in that program and had never seen it in creator 2009. After myguggi showed me how to get that same screen up in creator 2009 that got me over the hump with this thing. You really made me laugh with the Roman greeting and goodbye, lol. Are you too a fan of Roman history or just that form of latin?

Once again, thanks to all of you. I just burned my compilation cd exactly how I wanted the songs ordered because of you guys!

Brendon,

Lol, Latin sure is a arcane language. Religous backround or college? Can you speak it still? Bet you don't have too many people to practice with. One thing I have learned is that anyone who knows what SPQR is knows about latin and Rome, lol. I am a member of another fan site (a sports one, something I do know about, lol) and once in a while someone there will comment as you did in some fashion on my name. You are the first who learned latin though. All the others were fans of roman history.

Sknis,

Yes, I am indeed so much better a picture learner. I am even like that at work. I usually need to see something to really get it. Soon as I saw your screenshoot I knew I was getting closer to where I needed to be on this. Once myguggi told me how to get to your screenshot in creator 2009 you guys became my double rosetta stone in deciphering this very frustrating mystery for me.

Lol,

You guys are a great group. I didn't realise that one could also get Latin tutoring at a Roxio Community site!! You guys could actually start to practice with each other!

I have always loved the way Latin looks and sounds.I went to a tiny little class single A school and the only language options taught there were french and spanish. I elected to take spanish, taught be a half crazy teacher who was more interesting in running football betting sheets to his students and talking sports than anything else. By the time I went to college lassitude had set in to such a degree I could no longer expend that much energy on something outside my major, lol. Oh well.

Myguggi,

The people and senate of Rome!! Yes. For some reason that SPQR on that eagle standard forever caught my attention. I always found it just so completly riveting.

Sknis,

You may be old, but also smart and that counts for alot in life. In fact, all of you guys seem to be doing pretty well as far as I can see.

Brendon,

I know all about "the Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis, but what is it that you said in Latin?
