I want to create a video file with a slightly different format than one of the presets. If I select WMV9 768x432 VBR, thats what I get but the sample rate is too high at about 4500kbps. If I try to create a custom format I can't figure out all the options. Specifically, I want the same as above with a lower sample rate...say 1500 kbps. Is there a way of customizing from an existing preset rather than starting from scratch?

thx...

Don't think so. Customizing seems to start from scratch.

I asked customer support about it and after 6 or 7 emails they finally said it couldn't be done (create a custom WMV file).

sknis, When I say it can't be done I mean that not only can it not be done from an existing pre-set, but it also can't be done from scratch.

btw I noticed that the "pre-set" options will produce files with different parameters depending on the composition of the video clips in the Videowave production....adds to the randomness of the output....

Custom output templates can be AVI or MPG only. WMV output isn't random. Widescreen output is different than 4:3 output just like it should be.

Sorry but the standard WMV templates do generate different output files based on the video clips in the Videowave production. I've found that the sample rates can be different. I guess thats what started this discussion.

You are not providing anything beyond Don’t Work

The rest of us can do it but you are not seeing that.

Take us through it step by step so we can see what you are doing that isn’t working.

Okay

Videowave production 1 has an MP4 file in it. The specs on the MP4 are:
MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x720 29.79fps [Video Media Handler (jpn)]
I output the p[roduction to a WMV file and choose:
Windows Video Media 9, 768x432, vbr
What it then says I'm getting is:
Windows Video Media 9.1, 768x432, 30fps, quality vbr (85)
The specs for the resulting file are:
Windows Media Video 9 768x432 30.00fps 1410Kbps [Raw Video 1]

Videowave production 2 has a WMV file in it. The specs for this file are:
Windows Media Video 9 1920x1072 30.00fps 48335Kbps [Raw Video 1]
I output the p[roduction to a WMV file and choose:
Windows Video Media 9, 768x432, vbr -----the same as above
What it then says I'm getting is:
Windows Video Media 9.1, 768x432, 30fps, quality vbr (85)-----the same as above
The specs for the resulting file are:
Windows Media Video 9 768x432 30.00fps 6459Kbps [Raw Video 1]---a much higher sample rate than above.

The reason this is a problem is that I want to stream the video and production 1 works fine while production 2 is too big to stream reliably. The two input videos are the same video in different formats.

Hope this is what you are looking for.

Interesting... looks to me the bitrate would be the same for the same template regardless of input file type. I'll see if I can duplicate this. But I'm sure you've noticed that none of the preset templates give you any control over bitrate. Even creating a custom template, there are limits to that.

----
Here is what I did:
Original was Quicktime MOV at 1920x1080p
I convert that directly to WMV using the template you used. (screen shot first dialog on left)
I then converted to 720p MPEG 4 and WMV 1080p similiar to your files.

I then converted those file using the same template. Results are the other screen shots. As you can see, my results are very close regardless of input. Something strange is going on with your files or how you rendered. Yes, there is a slight variance in bitrate, but not like what you got.

All I can suggest is the bit rate is way higher on the input WMV vs the input MP4. I can't see the datarate for the MP4 but the file size is 6,444 KB vs 29,678 KB for the WMV. The date rates for your input files seem to be similar.

...of course WMV files are larger than MP4 files anyway so I'm not sure how much this means.....
