I've decided to try Toast to convert an AVI file to my AppleTV. I've just recently gotten the AppleTV. I choose this in convert files, Automatic and place in iTunes and Toast constantly crashes at say 30% or so into the conversion process. Has anyone else noticed this. Seems like a simple enough process and I even see I could convert my files for my BlackBerry but I don't understand why its crashing.

Forgot to mention this is Toast 9.0.1 running on a Macbook Pro with Leopard OSX 10.5.7 and 4 gigs of memory, 200 gig drive.

One last thing, it converts the file to MP4 I think as to M4V. It then puts the file in iTunes TV section. When I use Handbrake I just manually drag the M4V file (this is what I get when I buy an iTunes movie) to the movie section of iTunes.

I bought Toast thinking I'd have uses for it but haven't really used it much at all. I didn't realize it could convert files but was thinking more of it as a burning tool. However, conversion to my AppleTV is a neat concept and I could even use it to convert to my BlackBerry. It is just it seems a bit flaky or maybe its me and I just don't understand something about it.

I decided to look at the newest version 10 but I really don't see that it has anything else that I'd want that 9 doesn't have. Like I say, I never really even tapped into 9.

Anything I should know about Toast and successful file conversion. I ran it in the Fastest mode as opposed to automatic BTW and it didn't crash in this mode but the quality of the picture on my AppleTV and flatscreen isn't as good as when I use Handbrake. Not quite sure how to take advantage of this app. I think I might be missing something.

The first thing to check is to update to Toast 9.0.5 to see if that fixes the problem.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

OK - I looked at that after my post and didn't notice in the release notes any mention of this as a fix. The odd thing it didn't crash on the fastest conversion but the quality wasn't as good as Handbrake. It also put the movie in TV shows as opposed to movies in iTunes and the only thing I noticed is it had an MP4 extension whereas my movies have an m4v extension. Don't know if that makes a difference.
