I have an Lenovo SL400 running win XP whch came with Roxio Creator Small Business 10.0 bundled in. I updated it with version 10.1 from Lenovo support website. It was working fine this morning and suddenly it decided to crap out on me. Now when I try to start Roxio Creator, it crashes right after its GUI comes up. The message says "Roxio Creator has encountered and needs to close". Upon clicking the link for technical information, the error signature says:

AppName: roxio_central36.exe
AppVer: 3.70.67.4
ModName: quicktime.qts
ModVer: 7.62.14.0
Offset: 00069388

The weird part it that if I don't click on "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send" button and just leave it there on top, the whole GUI is still usable underneath. If I click either button, the GUI closes. Also I am able to individually start MyDVD, VideoWave, etc through the start menu.

I have already tried to uninstall and re-install without any luck...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! mad.gif

All support for that product would come from Lenovo.

None of us have ever seen it…

Guess they have a 1-800-Beijing number to call laugh.gif

That is perhaps the best advise your are capable of anyway..... So I did and managed to solve my problem....
And guess what... They didn't ask me to call "1-800-DicKital Guru"

As it turns out...If a Roxio installation is ever interrupted due to almost any reason, even if you hit the cancel button in the middle, it does not clean-up its crap before exiting gracefully. If you now start the installation again, the previous gunk messes up the new install and causes all kinds of "None of us have ever seen it errors".....

For some of us non Digital Gurus.....Here are some pointers that might help.......

The only way to get it to work again is to perform a Clean Reinstall. First uninstall anything called Roxio or Sonic from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs. Then follow the steps in this KB Article

I did not have to do step 1 & 2 but started with step 3. After you have restarted your system, perfom the installation again. After installation in completed, make sure you restart the system as the the installer instructs before using it.

Hopefully this helps....

The Clean Install is posted under the Installation/Uninstallation/Update forum.

You never said you had interrupted an install… What you said was that it was working fine even after you updated it then suddenly quit working this morning.

We can only work with what we are given, but that does not change the fact that the OEM version is not supported by Roxio.

Glad you got it working!

Now that is a genuine, understandable response..... I can respect that...

I did not interrupt the install. Something must have failed during the installation that I did not see any notification for. I only remember seeing a pop-up saying that the install was not completed and asking me to install again. Which I did and did not pay any further attention to it. When it still didn't work, I did an uninstall from add/remove program and then installed again.....still no success.

I may have falsely assumed that an uninstall would clean up my system.

While trying to figure out every possible reason for this failure with support, I decided to mention it and it turned out to be the cause.

I guess the lesson here is that we should always do a clean re-install and not rely on the uninstaller.

Anyway, I'm really glad it is working now.

Of course an Uninstall is not going to be good if the Install was not completed. sad.gif

Likewise Roxio’s uninstall isn’t too good or there would not be such a longwinded Clean Install…

I have had good luck with Uninstall then Installing a New Version. But I have also had to do several Clean Installs to get 2009 installed on a new PC…

Guess that qualifies as Win Some – Lose Some laugh.gif
