Hey, this is my first time Burning a DVD and I'm having some problems. I'm using Roxio Creator 9. I'm using a NexxTech DVD+R DL to burn a movie that is about 7.5gb or so. I've used the Roxio Disc Copier Video Compilation utility in order to try burning it. I set the DVD size to DVD+R DL and put the movie in the compilation and I try to start burning. It goes fairly quickly, but when it gets to about 90% done, it errors, ejects the disc and gives me an error message. When I check if anything was written to disc, nothing is and I can't write it anymore. I'm all out of discs for now so I need to get more. I have a few questions (I have been looking around the site and at the discs themselves): The disc says 8x so does that mean I am writing it too fast and it is erroring for that reason? (I think its writing at 24x, so is that the problem?) Or do I need to use a different utility in order to burn a DVD? Or is it just that the discs are no good? Thanks for your help in advance.

File size means nothing when it comes to burning video DVDs, it's the timelength of the video that is important. A standard 4.7GB DVD will hold 60 minutes of best quality video while a DL DVD will hold slightly less then 2 hours. I don't think you can burn a DL DVD at 24x; in any case its not good practice tu burn DVDs a max speed. I would also guess the Nexx Tech discs are poor quality. Try some Verbatims.

It is doubtful that it is writing at 24x. More than likely it is writing a 2.4x, but it would appear that it isn't writing at all.

I never heard of the media that you are using, but it is probably junk media. Update the firmware, for your DVD burner, as was suggested, in the link that Dave has, in his post.

Also, Walt is correct on the speed that you posted. That isn't going to happen.

You have pretty much a low end PC. You might continue to have problems with video. You could try cutting the video in half and then try a burn to a R/W type media for practice to see if that will even work.

I have never seen a 24X DVD but there are 24x CDs. The drive firmware and media speed pretty much determine the burn rate in general.

You might also try software verses hardware render since your internal video processor is pretty much junk. I know, I had one.

If you are trying to burn a 126 minute commercial movie then Roxio or any other legitimate software will not do it since that is illegal.

A standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at best quality.

There is no way that your burner should even try to burn a DVD at 24x - if it does then there is something wrong with your system and/or the burner. As Dave said there are no 24xDVDs or burners.

Heh, yeah. I've been waiting on a new computer for quite some time, but things always keep coming up and I never end up saving up enough for a new one. I'll try your suggestiong of splitting it up first and then trying to burn it. If that fails I'll try the software versus hardware render.

And, no, its not a commercial movie, its just a large video file of almost all of the videos I have on my friend's computer. (But it was ripped from a few DVDs

Yes there are 18x 20x 22x and 24x...You have to have the burner to get a Write Speed Descriptor(s)...

The main point is, the OP's TSST burner is nowhere near 24x speed when burning a DVD.
