I hope I am in the right area.  I have just purchased Roxio Creator 2009 and am trying to burn a DVD for a slideshow with background music to play off a DVD player and view it on a TV.  My photos are in the folder "My Pictures" and the music is in the folder "iTunes" on my PC.  I have not found the "Roxio Creator 2009 User Guide" or the tutorials helpful in this.
If anybody could give me step by step instructions on how to burn a DVD for viewing a slide show on a TV with background music, I would very much appreciate it - or guide me to a page that would be helpful.

Use this or this.  Watch these and these.

If those are iTunes downloads, they have DRM protection and you won't be able to use them directly.  You can only use music you rip from a CD or download that do not have DRM protection.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
