I record my stuff on my windows Vista laptop and I have no problem with the playback there. When I transfer files to my Mac, I am unable to play anything except the .avi files. I want to know how I can get the mpeg1-3 files to work with quicktime. I have Quicktime 7.6.2 installed, and I still get the "this file is not a movie file." Windows Media Player for Mac, does the same thing also. I tried to change the file type, but no fooling it. I have WMP 9.0 for Mac installed.

Also I do get this intermittent crackle noise when I have the device hooked to my cable box. Is this a problem with it being hooked to the box or is it the device itself. I have not used the s-cable yet, so I do not know if this exists there also.

Thank you your help will be appreciated.

How are you transferring the videos to the MAC?  Quicktime should play the mpg2 files (at least). Perhaps the question should go to Apple?  On your PC, download and run gspot on the files to determine what they really are.

What device are you talking about in the second paragraph? Is that on the Mac or the Vista laptop?  Perhaps more of an explanation about what you are trying to do is in order.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

PC  Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Velocity Micro ProMagix ©HD 60; evga x58 motherboard, Intel i7 @2.93, 12G RAM, EVGA Nvidia 560TI superclocked video card, SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme audio card, Buffalo external blu-ray burner; Creator 2012. PhotoShow 6, VHS to DVD 3Plus.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

Apple =OSX 10.5
MacBook Pro; 15.4-inch widescreen display, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, 200GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 memory.  ILife 08, Toast 10, Final Cut Express 4 and Photoshop 4.

You need Apple's "QuickTime MPEG 2 Playback Component" which can be purchased at Apple's online store as a download for $19.95. I also suggest your going to perian.org and installing the latest perian codec.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!
